  • Patent number: 4039133
Abstract: A corner structure for a load supporting frame having a pair of horizontal side members with mitered end portions attached in end abutting relationship. The end portions are inserted in slots longitudinally extending from the upper end of an upright tubular leg. A pair of planar wedge members having a cooperating longitudinal slot and tab respectively are connected to define a predetermined angular relationship corresponding to the angle subtended by the side member end portions. In an alternate embodiment, a single, relatively wide slot longitudinally extends from the upper end of the upright tubular leg and a planar wedge member and an angle wedge member are connected to define the predetermined angular relationship. The attached wedge members are inserted between the side member end portions and the inner wall of the tubular leg to retain each end portion in the slot.

  • Patent number: 4025946
Abstract: A method of generating graphic designs from a light source by scanning the light source to generate a video signal, generating signals representing parameters of a raster signal and generating a raster signal from the parameter signals. The method further includes the steps of generating a modified video signal from the video signal and the raster signal, displaying the modified video signal as a visual display and reproducing the visual display as the graphic design. The system for performing the method includes a light box which is scanned by a television camera to generate the video signal. A special purpose computer is programmed with the parameters for defining the size, shape, position and structure of a raster signal which is then generated. The video signal and the raster signal are combined by the computer to generate the modified video signal to a display means such as a cathode ray tube. A still camera is utilized to photographically record the displayed signal as the graphic design.

  • Patent number: 4025819
Abstract: An apparatus for detecting relative movement between two objects which is illustrated in the preferred embodiment as a vehicle road speed signal source including a reed switch oscillator for generating an output signal having a frequency and a magnitude proportional to the road speed of an associated vehicle. Current flows through a biasing coil proximate the reed switch to generate a magnetic field which is slightly less than the field required to close the switch contacts. A permanent magnet means attached to the drive shaft of the vehicle generates a magnetic field which aids the biasing coil magnetic field to close the reed switch contacts. A transistor responds to the closing of the reed switch contacts to turn off the current to the biasing coil which allows the reed switch contacts to open.

  • Patent number: 4023661
Abstract: A cooling system for a vehicle clutch including a cooling fluid distribution means and a heat exchange means. A bell housing encloses the clutch assembly and provides a sump for containing cooling fluid. A clutch pressure plate has a plurality of pickup tubes formed on its periphery which are passed through the cooling fluid as the pressure plate rotates with the engine flywheel. The cooling fluid is forced through the pickup tubes into the interior of the clutch assembly where the cooling fluid draws heat from the clutch elements and then drains back into the sump. The inlet openings of adjacent pickup tubes are offset with respect to one another to increase the flow of cooling fluid. The rotation of the flywheel and the pressure plate generates a flow of the cooling fluid in the pool. A sump pan is connected to the bell housing and includes a baffle for diverting the flow of cooling fluid into the sump pan which is formed with a corrugated bottom and finned sides to function as a heat exchange means.

  • Patent number: 4013363
Abstract: A film advancing module which co-operates with a basic processing module to duplicate a master microfiche. The film advancing module includes a film drawing station for drawing a continuous strip of vesicular microfilm from the basic processing module into the film advancing module, a film cutting station for separating an exposed film segment from the continuous strip of microfilm, a film heating station for heating the film segment, a film cooling station for cooling the film segment, a film clearing station for clearing the film segment and a film receiving station for collecting the film segment. The film heating and cooling stations are positioned to define a generally S-shaped path of travel which tends to remove any curl in the film and all the stations are positioned to define a relatively compact path of travel for the film segment. The film cooling and clearing stations are connected in series to a source of cooling air to conduct heat away from the film segment.

  • Patent number: 3952829
Abstract: An apparatus for automatically maintaining the speed of a vehicle at a desired road speed as selected by the vehicle operator. When the operator actuates the control circuit, a desired road speed signal proportional to the vehicle road speed at that moment is generated and stored. The stored desired road speed signal is continuously compared with a signal representing the vehicle road speed to generate a duty cycle modulated control signal to a throttle control which adjusts the vehicle throttle to maintain the desired road speed. The generation of the desired road speed signal is synchronized with the vehicle road speed signal to provide an accurate and highly repeatable desired road speed signal. The control circuit also includes an anticipatory control which responds to the operator actuation of the control circuit to pre-position the throttle control as the desired road speed signal is being generated and stored. This reduces the overall response time of the speed control circuit.

  • Patent number: 3931901
Abstract: An apparatus for dumping refuse containers having outwardly extending co-axial trunnions at their upper front corners. The apparatus consists of two laterally spaced, co-acting mechanisms between which the container is located for dumping. Each of the two mechanisms has a vertically movable lever, both of the levers being pivoted on a common horizontal pivot line on a structure that remains stationary while a container is being dumped. The lower ends of the levers are connected by a cross member which engages the container at a level beneath the trunnions. Each of the mechanisms also has opposed trunnion locks which are moved by a hydraulic cylinder to engage the trunnions. Thereafter, through a lost motion connection, the levers and cross member are swung rearwardly and upwardly by the hydraulic cylinders in order to tip the container over for dumping the refuse.
