  • Patent number: 5092909
Abstract: Method and apparatus for treating sulphur bearing coal comprising pulverizing the coal, mixing it with water, a reagent and free air and pumping the resulting mixture to a classifier to separate the coal from sulphur and clay, all at the mine site. The resulting pure coal slurry is then pumped to a plant site where it is mixed with acid and bacteria. The resulting slurry is pumped to a bacteria digester wherein it is recirculated to provide maximum contact of bacteria and coal, completing the removal of sulphur. The resulting slurry is introduced into a mixer wherein the bacteria is neutralized by a reagent, raising the pH above 7 to destroy the bacteria and simultaneously aerating the mixture to treat the effuent. The desulphurized coal is treated by drying apparatus to provide a final purified coal product.

  • Patent number: 5078163
Abstract: Apparatus for uniformly wetting and discharging ash. It is enclosed in a dust hood. It comprises an open top pan disposed at an angle of about 55.degree. degrees with respect to a floor, rotated at slow speed. An ash charge chute discharges ash into the pan. Fixed scraper means extend at right angles to the pan to scrape the bottom of the pan while water is sprayed onto the surface of the discharged ash so that the rotated ash is tumbled back to the bottom of the pan to effect uniform wetting of the tumbled particles as they are discharged downwardly from the top of the side of the pan.

  • Patent number: 5067405
Abstract: In a weapon subject to a sequence of high acceleration followed by high spin and including a detonator and an explosive charge; the improvement comprising a barrier having two parts located between the detonator and explosive charge to normally form an obstruction to prevent accidental detonation of the explosive charge by the detonator. Mechanical locking means are provided to lock the barrier in place, comprising a split cylinder and a spirally wound ribbon, a pair of pins restraining the outer surface of the ribbon to prevent premature unwinding. When the weapon is fired from a gun, the high acceleration will remove the pins and allow the ribbon to unwind. Upon unwinding the entire ribbon, the barrier under the action of spin, will be removed to provide an unobstructed path between the detonator and explosive charge.

  • Patent number: 5030145
Abstract: A manually operable unit having a single handle for driving, steering and tilting a boat propeller. The crank handle, when turned, drives the propeller through bevel gearing. A vertical sleeve surrounding a vertical drive shaft has an offset U-shaped portion terminating in a sleeve serving as a bearing for the crank handle. Pushing the crank handle against the bearing rotates the vertical sleeve which mounts the propeller, therefore steering the propeller. Pulling of the handle will tilt the vertical sleeve with respect to a mounting C-clamp to pivotally raise the propeller.
