Abstract: A gas distribution system employing an array of parallel gas inlet pipes and a pair of transverse gas inlet pipes located below the first group of pipes to fluidize a particulate bed in a reaction vessel and to remove non-fluidizable particles that may be introduced into or form in the bed.
Abstract: A portable device for securing loads, including a plurality of articles, in motor vehicles, which device comprises a platform means having hook-like mesh engaging elements provided along one edge thereof, and net means secured along the opposite edge of said platform means so that meshes of said net are engaged by said hook-like elements when said net is pulled taut over articles placed on said platform means.
Abstract: A fluid bed processing apparatus in which a series of individual fluid bed modules are arranged horizontally alongside each other in a linear or circular configuration with the bed material overflowing weirs between each module in moving from the feed stock input module to a discharge module.
Abstract: A tamper evident indicating means for a vacuum packed package or bottle comprising an indicia printed seal that is separated from a translucent closure member when the package or bottle is under vacuum so that the indicia is not readable or discernible through the closure member, but when the vacuum is lost, as through tampering, the seal contacts the closure and the indicia printed thereon is readable or discernible to warn of possible tampering.
Abstract: A traffic control system for controlling vehicular traffic flow at intersections in which the conventional red, yellow, green three light traffic signal that informs a motorist to stop, prepare to stop, and go is supplemented by an auxiliary signal spaced from the intersection. The auxiliary signal informs a motorist that he will have sufficient time to make a gradual normal stop at the intersection before the red stop light is switched on, provided he has not passed the auxiliary signal when the yellow light of the traffic signal is illuminated. If he has passed the auxiliary signal when the yellow light of the traffic signal is switched on, he will know that he can proceed through the intersection before the red stop light is switched on. The auxiliary signal may be a single or double yellow light operating in synchronism with the yellow light of the traffic signal, or it may be another type of signal, such as a painted zone on the roadway surface.
Abstract: A pipette system in which a pipette is controlled by a pre-programmed control unit to perform any selected one of a number of liquid dispensing functions, such as pipetting single volumes of liquid, multiple dispensings from an aspirated volume of liquid, dilutions, and titrations. The control unit also permits new programs for liquid dispensing functions to be written and stored therein.
Abstract: Security hardware for an exterior entry door in which a flat piece of metal is bent into a J-shaped door jamb mounted component and in which an aperture through which a door mounted article of hardware can project is provided in the single layer part an aligned buck pin apertures are provided in the double layer part of the component. A buck pin having a head portion and a grooved portion spaced therefrom is also provided as is a slotted retaining member that when positioned between the double layer of the component engages the grooved portion of the buck pin to prevent its removal from the buck pin apertures.
Abstract: A hinge-like device for securing the hinge side of a door against "kick-ins." The device comprises a jamb leaf that extends outside the area protected by a closed door so that a buck pin projecting through the extended portion can engage the strongest part of the wall structure. A cover plate is provided to prevent access to and removal of the buck pin, and the cover plate is itself irremovable because its mounting screws are shielded by a closed door. A door leaf secured to the inner surface of the door is loosely fitted to the jamb leaf.
Abstract: A safe relocking system that comprises a solenoid energized relocking bolt and an electrical printed circuit that is interposed in front of the safe locking mechanism and which controls actuation of the relocking bolt when altered or otherwise affected by an attack on the safe locking mechanism.
Abstract: A finder or sighting scope for use with an astronomical telescope, the finder scope having a target member or reticle located at the common focus of the scope objective and the eyepiece. The target member or reticle may be seen as a magnified telescope view when viewed through the eyepiece and as a target or star image against the backdrop of the sky as viewed by a naked eye, the target or star image being projected into the viewer's line of sight by the objective and a mirror and beamsplitter.
Abstract: Ultra wide-angle eyepieces with relatively long focal lengths and minimal spherical aberration of the exit pupil and field curvature. The eyepieces use six elements in a positive power lens group and two elements in a negative power lens group.
Abstract: A bicycle lock mounted on the bicycle which can be quickly actuated by a rider to immobilize the bicycle and prevent its being ridden away by a thief who has demanded surrender of the bicycle. The lock includes a manually operated member on the handlebar of the bicycle which is connected by a cable to the actual locking mechanism which when actuated immediately prevents a rotating member, e.g., a wheel, from rotating. The locking member, once removed to a locking position, can only be restored to a non-locking position when a key operated member is actuated to permit such restoration.
Abstract: A pair of wrist shackles or handcuffs in which one handcuff is joined to a second handcuff by a single pivot member that permits one handcuff to pivot or rotate in a planar direction to overlay the other handcuff.
Abstract: A cylinder operated deadbolt lock in which a solid housing is provided with bores and apertures only to accommodate the lock components, such as the lock cylinder, the lock bolt, and the bolt moving mechanism. The lock bolt is thrown and withdrawn by a pinion bolt moving mechanism which engages a rack formed on the bolt. The lock is further provided with a drill resistant guard plate which is mounted in the housing and protects the lock cylinder against drilling.
Abstract: An improved hinge for supporting a door on a door jamb wherein the jamb leaf of the hinge is provided with an extended part having a buck pin that is offset from that part of the leaf aligned with a door edge so that the pin is insertable in an aperture provided in the strongest part of the wall behind the door jamb. The jamb leaf is secured to the door jamb by screws located at the extended part of the leaf, i.e., outside the area covered by a closed door, and a protective cover is provided to prevent access to the screws after the leaf is secured to the door jamb.
Abstract: A cylinder operated deadbolt lock in which a solid housing is provided with bores and apertures only to accommodate the lock components, such as the lock cylinder, the lock bolt, and the bolt moving mechanism. The lock bolt is provided with a rack and extends into the housing where it is thrown and withdrawn by a pinion mechanism.
Abstract: An improved strike plate for mounting on a door jamb to receive the dead bolt of a door mounted lock wherein the strike plate is provided with a buck pin that is offset from the bolt receiving aperture of the plate so as to be insertable in an opening provided in the strongest part of the wall supporting structure. A hinge similarly constructed is also disclosed.
Abstract: A wide angle eyepiece having reduced astigmatism at the edge of the field and comprising a doublet, a singlet, a singlet, and a doublet, wherein the doublets have negative power.
Abstract: Improved ballistic material comprising a multiplicity of plies of ballistic cloth woven with an aramid, e.g., Kevlar, thread, one or more of which plies are treated with resorcinol formaldehyde latex to coat the aramid threads and fill the interstices between the threads of a treated ply.
