Abstract: A tree display is made in a tree display area of a play list display area as of the contents files were classified in a directory structure, but in reality the contents files are not classified in a directory structure. In the tree display area, the heading “All music pieces” is not located at the lowest hierarchical level of the tree structure but partway up the structure, and in the event that “All music pieces” is selected, the contents are searched with an item corresponding to the parent thereof as the search key, and data relating to the corresponding contents is displayed in a list display area, so in a case described herein, contents matching the genre of “Blues” and artist name of “4 hero” are displayed on the list display area. Thus, desired contents files can be easily searched for.
Abstract: As an imaging prevention method for interfering unauthorized imaging of a number of visual images projected on a screen, there is employed a method for projecting infrared light to a viewer/audience direction from at least one or more infrared light projector devices disposed at a rear side of the screen. According to the method, an amount of infrared light is directly incident into an imaging apparatus whereby increasing the prevention effect causes more infrared light to be directly incident into the imaging apparatus of a person conducting the unauthorized act.

Abstract: Data compression apparatus for compressing an input data unit to produce an output data unit in accordance with a desired data quantity of the output data unit, the degree of compression being determined by a compression control variable having a range of possible values. A trial encoder compresses successive sections of the input data unit in accordance with a trial group of two or more values of the compression control variable. A data quantity detector detects the trial data quantities generated by each trial encoding of the sections of the input data unit and selects a base compression control variable applicable to the input data unit on the basis of the detected trial data quantities, in order to comply with the desired data quantity.

Abstract: The noise in a frequency demodulated audio signal is detected on the basis of the characteristics of the stereo-multiplex signal to obtain a very reliable information that can be used for the sliding stereo-mono transition, noise blanking and a de-noising of the stereo difference signal. A noise (vd,q(t)) is calculated by performing a coherent amplitude demodulation of the frequency demodulated stereo-multiplex signal with the second harmonic of the pilot carrier that is quadrature to the pilot carrier and as a direct measure for the quality of the signal generating the variance (&sgr;2vd,q) of the noise signal by squaring and thereafter averaging the noise signal.

Abstract: The invention relates to a coding apparatus for embedding second data into first data without deteriorating the first data and a decoding apparatus for decoding coded data into original first data and second data without deteriorating those data. The invention provides a coding apparatus which determines change subject data and change data based on a frequency distribution of at least partial data of the first data, and embeds second data into first data by causing a change from the change subject data to the change data according to the second data. The invention also provides a decoding apparatus which determines change subject data and change data based on a frequency distribution of at least partial data of coded data in which second data is embedded, and decodes the coded data into original first data and restores the second data that is embedded in the coded data by restoring the change subject data from the change data.
Abstract: An electron beam irradiation apparatus in a partial vacuum method is structured with a static pressure floating pad 18 connected to a vacuum chamber 14 containing an electron beam column 15 and in a condition that the static pressure floating pad 18 is attached to a subject 1 to be irradiated without contacting, and an electron beam irradiating the subject 1 to be irradiated through an electron beam path 19 of the static pressure floating pad 18, whereby the vacuum chamber and the electron beam column can be maintained in the required degree of vacuum even in a condition that the static pressure floating pad 18 is separated from the subject 1 to be irradiated. A vacuum seal valve 30 including a piston to open and close the electron beam path 19 is provided within the static pressure floating pad 18.
Abstract: This proposal describes an optimized synchronization (SYNCH) symbol sequence to be used in transmission systems, which are currently under standardization. The synchronization symbol is constructed using specially designed OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) symbols with an optimized sequence, which is mapped onto the modulated subcarriers. The resulting synchronization symbol consists of several repetitions in the time domain. Using the proposed sequence the resulting synchronization symbol achieves a high timing detection and frequency offset estimation accuracy. Furthermore the burst is optimized to achieve a very low envelope fluctuation (low Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) and a very low dynamic range to reduce complexity on the receiver and to save time and frequency acquisition time in the receiver. The proposed sequence is furthermore optimized with respect to all other synchronization symbols that are used to construct the synchronization and training preambles for the BCCH-DLCHs.

Abstract: A data conversion apparatus and a data conversion method are disclosed by which, when data of a format used in a processing apparatus is to be written into a memory, it can be written in a compressed form and, when the data is to be read out from the memory, it can be read out in a decompressed form. An address conversion section converts an address from the processing apparatus side from an address of a floating-point data space into an address of a fixed-point data space. A data compression section converts data of a floating-point format from the processing apparatus side into data of a fixed-point format. A data decompression section converts data of the fixed-point format from the memory side into data of the floating-point format. A predetermined portion of the address is utilized, upon the data conversion, as an exponent part of the data of the fixed-point format.

Abstract: An optical communication system wherein a light emission circuit operates with reduced power consumption. The optical communication system is used in a communication network wherein communication is had between a control node and plural controlled nodes using light rays amplitude-modulated with carrier modulation signals over 6 MHz. The control node transmits a transmission permission signal to each controlled node, which starts or interrupts light emission with desired transient characteristics by having reference to the transmission permission signal. For example, the amplitude of the infrared light rays is increased or decreased over e.g., a period as indicated at I1.
Abstract: Three-dimensional image processing has two processes. In a first process, a three-dimensional space including only a horizon appears on a display screen. By drawing a stroke line in the space, a wall having the stroke line as the base line is set as a canvas. A picture drawn by a user is mapped onto the canvas, resulting in a three-dimensional picture. By repeatedly setting the canvases and pictures, a desired scene can be constructed. A desired three-dimensional scene can further be obtained by rotating the canvas or moving the viewing point. In a second process, the base line of the canvas is constantly displaced between a first curve, a second curve, and an interpolation curve. The three-dimensional image pasted on the canvas is moved in accordance with the movement of the canvas. Thus, it appears to the user that the three-dimensional image is animating.
Abstract: An inverse discrete-cosine transform apparatus that is simple in structure and can yet output pixel data items different in resolution. The apparatus comprises eight inverse discrete-cosine transform multipliers 23, ten field, compression, inverse discrete-cosine transform multipliers 22, eight selectors 24, eight selectors 25, eight buffers 26, eight sign multipliers 27, a control section, eight adders 28, and eight buffers 29. The control section controls the selectors 24, selectors 25, buffers 26 and sign multipliers 27 in accordance with whether the input discrete-cosine block has been subjected to field division and where the discrete-cosine coefficients are located in the block. One of the values input to the selectors 24, selectors 25, buffers 26 and sign multipliers 27 is thereby selected. The value selected is output after added with the plus sign or the minus sign. The adders 28 add the values output from the selectors 24, selectors 25, buffers 26 and sign multipliers 27.
