  • Patent number: 5092824
Abstract: A power recovery speed control apparatus for use in a system driven by a substantially constant-speed power source driving a turbine type water pump. The system includes a hydromechanical trimmer device controlled by pump output pressure to modify the turbine pump speed over a relatively small range as a function of pump output pressure. In series between the power source output shaft and the turbine pump drive shaft is a mechanical differential gear assembly having input, output and differential (speed difference) shafts. A fixed displacement hydrostatic transmission unit (pump) extracts a fraction of the source power at the differential shaft and applies it through hydraulic feed lines to a variable displacement hydrostatic transmission unit operated as a hydraulic motor. The hydraulic motor unit has its displacement controlled by a pump output pressure sensor and its output torque is introduced into the power train at the power source output or alternatively, at the turbine pump input shaft.

  • Patent number: 5073076
Abstract: A device for simultaneously or sequentially edge binding a sheaf of papers and separately laminating single sheets. A heat applying assembly includes a body of heat conducting material having a generally horizontal elongated slot extending through the body and two pairs of rollers, one at an input end of the slot and the other at an output end thereof for feeding a document between two thermoplastic sheets through the slot. Upper and lower imbedded heating coils apply heat above and below the slot for fusing the thermoplastic sheets to effect lamination of the document. The body of heat conducting material provides an upper surface slanted at an acute angle with respect to the horizontal. A rigid guide surface oriented by an equal angle with respect to the vertical provides for gravity retention of a sheaf of paper to be edge bound against the aforementioned upper surface, a heat setting adhesive being introduced along the common end of tyhe sheaf of papers thereby binding the papers along a spine.

  • Patent number: 4941428
Abstract: A device for uniform and discretely controlled deposition of small quantities of viscous material at each of a succession of locations on a surface according to a digital X-Y-Z program. A particular application is for deposition of a viscous solder flux or slurry of very small solder particles in such a flux material, through a small (needle) orifice. A pumping valve is driven, typically by pneumatic pressure, during the brief dwell time of the needle at each programmed X, Y location, on an electronic circuit board or the like. A mechanical contact member is provided for automatically optimizing the needle orifice height (Z dimension) over each programmed location irrespective of irregularities or curvature of the plane of the circuit board. In an optional embodiment spaced needle orifices provide contemporaneous deposition of the viscous material. Rotating apparatus is provided for selecting the orientation of the needle orifices in the place of the surface.

  • Patent number: 4785291
Abstract: Monitoring apparatus including an unmodulated radio-frequency transmitter carried by or affixed to the person to be monitored and receiver/monitor apparatus at a monitoring location for providing quantized visual and audible indicia based on received signal strength. The receiver AGC level, being a function of received signal strength, provides the variable which determines the repetition rate of tone bursts and the number of LED bar visual indicia lighted within an array of such LED bars. The response levels of those indicia are then a function of the distance between transmitter and receiver. Movement of the child (for example) beyond a predetermined range is immediately detected by a person at the receiver location. Circuitry is provided for presetting the maximum allowable range before alarm is instituted.

  • Patent number: 4439774
Abstract: A triangulated rib structure including first, second and third sets of "egg-crate" interlocking ribs. The first set is oriented in a predetermined direction such as the horizontal or vertical coordinate, and the second and third sets are oriented at angles of first and second senses, respectively, thereby forming triangulated spaces which are inherently rigid. The individual ribs have edges falling adjacent to a desired overall reflector surface, each of these being precut before assembly to provide the required line of curvature as a function of the individual ribs placement. Each rib is itself a planar piece, and the "egg-crate" interlocking slot joints may be stabilized with one or more seam welds. A conductive mesh forming the actual contoured reflector surface is conformed to the desired contoured shape and affixed as by tack-welding to the edges of the ribs adjacent the contoured surface.

  • Patent number: 4371830
Abstract: A regulated power supply for high voltage pulsed loads. An AC main or inverter circuit feeds the primary of a transformer which has a tapped secondary. The full secondary voltage is rectified through a diode to charge a main capacitor through a ground-end, low-voltage solid state control circuit. A sensing circuit detects the desired level of main capacitor charge and controls the solid state conductive element into current cutoff, by injecting a voltage step which holds off further main capacitor charging until the next load current pulse. The solid state circuits control operate at low level (ground-end of the high voltage main capacitor) and residual power supply energy is automatically shunted to an unregulated tapped output.

  • Patent number: 4359779
Abstract: A system including a frequency ramp generator feeding a transmitting power amplifier and antenna through a phase modulator and gain-controllable, transmitter driver stage. The frequency ramp generated is sampled out through a wide band delay-line feeding a phase comparator, the other comparison input to the phase comparator being provided by a sampling probe at the transmitting power amplifier output. The phase comparator output is used as a phase correction signal applied to the phase modulator and an amplitude modulation detector also responsive to the signal on the transmitting power amplifier output provides a feedback signal controlling the gain of the transmitter driver on a high bandwidth basis. Accordingly, instantaneous and long term frequency ramp phase and amplitude variations are substantially cancelled out so that the power amplified output is an accurate replica of the originally generated frequency ramp.

  • Patent number: 4339754
Abstract: A radar system is provided with first and second moving target indicator (MTI) systems. The first MTI system generally works better against ground clutter than against sky clutter. The second MTI system works well against sky clutter but generally requires a greater number of radar return echoes to discern targets in the sky clutter. A correlation estimation circuit is employed to calculate the correlation of clutter-like return echoes not suppressed by the first MTI system. If the return echoes are sufficiently correlated, the second MTI system is invoked against the clutter. If the return echoes are less well correlated, on the other hand, then electronic counter-counter measure systems may be invoked.

  • Patent number: 4333081
Abstract: Monitoring apparatus for a time reference scanning-beam microwave landing system which supplies directional information throughout a 40.degree. to 60.degree. landing approach sector. Several transponders are provided within the radiation field of the directional antenna of the landing system, these being directionally separated. Each transponder retransmits a part of the beam passing by it back to the directional antenna of the microwave landing system. The retransmitted signals are in converted form and are processed by the MLS system similar to radar echo signals, but are modulated at different discreet frequencies for identification. Errors are detected by comparing received transponder signals with locally generated reference signals at the MLS equipment.

  • Patent number: 4328415
Abstract: A card reader for a viewdata terminal such as PRESTEL in which a code in the card is read and used to enable access to the viewdata computer and to charge the appropriate account for use of the viewdata system. The reader detects voltage signals from capacitive couplings between electrodes in the card and in the reader assesses whether they are greater or smaller than a reference level to give binary 1 or binary 0 and compensates for capacitance variations by means of a "dummy" cell which adjusts the reference. Any variations in the signals caused by dirt et cetera affects the dummy cell equally and hence adjusts the reference accordingly. The reader operates in the static mode.
