Abstract: A hand tool, such as a screw driver, with a handle connected to the tool element thereof so that when the handle is turned in one direction, there is a positive driving action but when it is turned in a reverse direction, the handle is free to rotate relative to the tool element. The connection is made by means of a coil spring mounted on a driver shaft member and a driven shaft member, which are connected non-rotatably to the respective handle and tool element.
Abstract: An automatic temperature control system for the forming units of a machine of the press and blow type. It comprises a system for automatically sensing the need for and supplying cooling air to the individual forming units, in accordance with heat transfer therefrom, so that controlled temperatures can be maintained in the various units to thereby form ware of uniform characteristics in the various units.
Abstract: A sweeper brush section comprising a deformed metal channel with a plurality of outwardly-opening cups or sockets at regularly spaced intervals in which are positioned the inner U-shaped ends of tufts or bunches of wire bristles mounted in non-metallic sleeves. These sleeves are pivoted in the respective cups about transverse axis for limited movement to prevent breakage of the bristle wires, especially at the time of the initial impact of the wires with the surface being swept.
Abstract: A machine for generating surfaces of various characteristics on workpieces. It is similar in overall construction to the usual lathe which has a headstock for rotating the workpiece about its axis and a tool carriage which is mounted on a pivot for swinging movement relative to the headstock so that the tool, when adjusted into engagement with the face of the workpiece, will produce a spherical surface thereon. However, the present invention provides a special eccentric control unit in cooperation with the tool carriage for advancing or retracting it relative to the face of the workpiece, as the tool carriage swings, so that aspherical surfaces will be produced thereon by the tool. This eccentric unit is such that it can be readily set to obtain, accurately, surfaces of various preselected characteristics.
Abstract: A solar panel assembly consisting essentially of a heat-collector fluid passage through which the air, for example, to be heated is passed for heating by convection and radiation. The panel comprises a ray-absorbing back or inner panel and a ray-passing diaphanous outer panel which is spaced forwardly thereof to provide the air passage through which the air to be heated is passed. The outer panel is so formed relative to the rear panel that the air passing through the passage is caused to travel in intimate contact with the ray-absorbing panel so that the absorbed heat will be effectively transferred to the passing air. This is accomplished by having the cooperating panels produce successive transverse slots in the direction of flow of the air stream which are constricted to offer resistance to the flow of the air stream to increase its velocity over the ray-absorbing rear panel with a minimum decrease in the pressure of the stream, much like a Venturi tube.
Abstract: A self-sealing dispensing valve for use on various containers. It is a simple two-piece device consisting of an outer housing having a dispensing outlet and an inner complemental valve member which ordinarily closes the outlet but which can be moved by finger pressure to open the outlet, and which will automatically return to its closed position when opening pressure is released. The housing has a flexible dome-shaped outer wall which embraces and is attached to a complemental dome-shaped rigid wall at the outer end of the valve member, which also has an axially inwardly extending flared sealing skirt. The skirt normally seats on the outlet, which extends radially through the correspondially tapered housing, but will be displaced axially inwardly to open the outlet, upon inward axial pressure on the outer dome-shaped flexible housing wall. Internal container pressure aids in the normal seating of the valve member.

Abstract: A film and battery pack provided with means for insulating one or both of the poles of the battery in a combination film and battery pack used in a camera of the instant-developing type. The insulating means is ineffective before and after insertion into the pocket of the camera which receives the pack but is moved into insulating relationship to the poles of the battery of the pack as the pack is removed from the camera for discarding.
Abstract: A drum-like container of fiberboard or similar material supplied in flat knocked-down form and adapted to be set up to serve both as a shipping and dispensing container for bulk material which is provided with a bottom closure equipped with a frangible wall arrangement to permit opening readily for dispensing the container contents.
