  • Patent number: 4180271
Abstract: A game and the game apparatus are disclosed. The game apparatus comprises a game board, a plurality of cards or the like which are deployed on said game board and a plurality of identifier playing pieces. Each of the cards has a plurality of line segments marked thereon. Each end of the line segments on a card extends to an edge of the card. The line segments on each card or the like are generally curved line segments; however, one or more or all of the line segments on a given card may be straight lines. The playing area of the game board is divided into a plurality of quadrangles, preferably squares, having the same size as the size of the cards. To begin the game, each player in turn places a card on the game board such that one end of the line segment touches an edge of the game board playing area. The edges of the playing area of the game board contain a plurality of start marks. The line selected by each player is aligned with one of these start marks and that line then becomes that player's line.

  • Patent number: 4146087
Abstract: Method and device for maintaining and reinforcing in an accumulation tank a stratified condition of fluid caused by the fluid in the tank when a flowing of the fluid is caused by heating the same. The portion of the fluid in the tank that is to be heated is separated from the fluid in the tank prior to the heating and the heated fluid is permitted to ascend through a liquid column separated from the fluid in the tank and is conducted back into the tank at the fluid-layer that has substantially the same temperature as the heated fluid. The device comprises an accumulation tank in which a tube is arranged substantially vertically from the bottom thereof towards its upper part and the tube receives separated heated fluid which is allowed to ascend through the tube. • Patent number: 4135490
Abstract: Recirculating natural convection solar energy collectors are disclosed. In one species of the invention, the collector comprises an insulated housing, a cover of glass or other suitable transparent material, a transparent plate of glass or other suitable material mounted inside said housing and spaced apart from the cover, a heat absorber mounted inside the housing and spaced apart from the transparent plate, an air separator mounted inside the housing and spaced apart from the absorber and cover, and a heat exchanger located inside the housing at the top of the housing. The heat absorber is made from a thin sheet of suitable material such as aluminum foil that has a surface coated with a heat absorbing material such as black paint, solar selective black chrome and the like. As the air inside the housing flows over the heat absorber, it is heated and rises to the top of the housing. The heat exchanger at the top of the housing absorbs heat from the hot air thereby cooling the air.

  • Patent number: 4126077
Abstract: A system designed to reduce the recoil of any ball and powder type weapon such as guns, rifles, cannons or the like is disclosed. In a ball and powder type weapon the bullet or shell is propelled out of the barrel by the high pressure created by the explosion of the powder. Not only is the bullet or shell propelled out of the barrel but the air and other hot gasses are also jetted out of the barrel. Due to the fact that the air and other hot gasses are jetted out of the barrel, a vacuum is created in the barrel. After the shell or bullet and the hot gasses are jetted out of the barrel, air from the outside due to atmospheric pressure rushes back into the evacuated barrel and it is this rush of air back into the barrel that is the major cause of recoil in a ball and powder type weapon. The system of this invention reduces the recoil caused by this rush of air back into the barrel by providing a plurality of chambers that communicate with the bore of the weapon through separate channels or ports.

  • Patent number: 4115950
Abstract: A method and apparatus for increasing the production of tuber-producing plants per unit area is disclosed. In accordance with this invention, a seed-tuber is planted in soil that is contained in a first box or frame unit. As the plant grows it develops new leaves and axil-buds. When the plant reaches a given height, which is different for different plants, a new layer of soil is added to the first box or frame unit. The new layer of soil does not completely cover the plant. Instead, a layer of soil is added such that the apical meristem is located at the soil surface or about one cm. below the soil surface. As the plant continues to grow another new layer of soil is again added in the manner described. When the level of the soil approaches the top of the first box or frame unit, a second box or frame unit designed to fit on top of the first box or frame unit is placed on top of the first box or frame unit.

  • Patent number: 4101131
Abstract: A board game comprising a multiple layer game board the top two layers of which are separable but maintained in registration and several sets of playing pieces, each set distinguishable from the other. The top layer is transparent and has an array of playing positions marked on it. The second layer carries indicia which can be seen through the top layer and which influence the placing of playing pieces on the game board in accordance with the rules. The third layer and the playing pieces are magnetically attracted to one another thus securing the pieces placed on the game board against moving out of place. The playing pieces are stackable and a stacked piece is mechanically or magnetically secured to the piece upon which it rests. The game played in accordance with the rules described is a remarkable simulation of auto racing and closely duplicates the physical laws of motion and the natural effects of speed, acceleration and momentum.

  • Patent number: 4093386
Abstract: A device for application of liquid products, such as paints and the like, comprising a container holding the main quantity of the product and with a discharge opening therein, and an applicator roller. An elongate chamber is provided between the discharge opening and the applicator roller in a position beneath the roller and with a paint supply slot at its top wall. The roller is mounted in front of the container and above the chamber in a manner ensuring that the roller, when rotated, picks up a controlled amount of paint on its periphery. The device is equally suitable for painting vertical and horizontal surfaces. By tilting the device into various positions of inclination or by providing special means it is possible to control the amount of liquid to be picked up by the roller and also the speed of liquid outflow. Means are provided to allow use of applicator rollers of various kinds and having different circumferential dimensions.

  • Patent number: 4066897
Abstract: This invention relates to testing to determine the residual recoverable energy of a battery of cells or a single cell, without requiring any electrical connection to the battery or the addition of special materials, substances, or devices to the intrinsic cell, and therefore, the remaining useful life of the battery or single cell. Two different embodiments, both of which rely on the fact that the electrodes of a battery or cell undergo chemical change during discharge, are disclosed. In the first embodiment, gamma radiation is transmitted through an electrode of the battery or cell and the level of the radiation exiting from the electrode is measured. This measurement is correlated with a known value obtained for that battery or cell before discharge has taken place. The second embodiment utilizes a beta or photon backscattering technique. A battery or cell undergoing test is subjected to beta or photon radiation and the backscatter is measured.
