  • Patent number: 3979745
Abstract: An instrument for linearizing a non-linear analog output produced from a sensor such as a thermocouple to obtain a true measurement of the parameter or engineering units of interests. The full range of the non-linear analog output is divided into segments and within each segment the second slope or the rate of change of the first slope of the analog output is predetermined and stored. In carrying out measurements, the magnitude of the analog output sensed is converted to constant frequency pulses. When measurements are carried out, within a given segment the corresponding second slope data is employed to modify the frequency of the constant frequency pulses to obtain output pulses for accumulation. These output pulses have a frequency which at any given moment is representative of the first slope of the analog output and which changes at a rate representative of the rate of change of the first slope of the analog output.

  • Patent number: 3979054
Abstract: The specification discloses a system for use for safely collecting and storing coins in motor vehicle cleaning facilities and which may be reliably used outdoors in all types of weather and under many different adverse conditions. The system comprises a safe to be embedded in concrete and having metal forms for receiving the concrete when wet and which forms part of the completed structure when the wet concrete hardens. The safe has a conduit extending therefrom defining a coin inlet and a door in one end for removing the coins collected. In one aspect, a drain conduit extends from the bottom of the safe for draining water which may be inadvertently or deliberately injected into the safe through the coin inlet and in another embodiment, there is provided a conduit for receiving an electrical cord to allow an electrical heater to be located in the safe.

  • Patent number: 3973531
Abstract: An improved engine, particularly of the rotary type, or so-called angle piston type, having conventional components and characterized by a compressor serving as a supercharger interposed between the carburetor and the engine intake ports for compressing the combustible mixture; a bypass manifold for passing compressed combustible mixture to the suction side of the compressor; and a fine throttle means for controlling the proportion of combustible mixture bypassed for fine control and efficient combustion in the engine. The master throttle on the carburetor is employed only for major adjustments in power requirements. Also disclosed are details of critically located and designed intake ports and passageways and discharge ports and passageways to take advantage of centrifugal force of the angle piston type engine to obtain very nearly perfect scavenging, as well as details of employing a center section compressor for compressing the combustible mixture.

  • Patent number: 3973195
Abstract: A current potential indicator for connection with electrical contacts for detecting with a minimum event indicator the presence of a minimum electrical energy potential available at the contacts, and a threshold indicator for sensing a selected quantity of electrical energy above said minimum energy level. The apparatus is specially adapted for insertion into a pyrotechnic cartridge well or breech cap of a weapons system using pyrotechnically discharged weapons by utilizing a housing with retainer means for releasable connection with the well or breech cap. No electrical power supply is required for operation of this current potential indicator, thus producing essentially fail sale reliability.

  • Patent number: 3970305
Abstract: An athletic wrist support for attachment to the arm and hand of a player. While in play, the user may adjust the support to a restricting position to restrict movement of the hand and hence flexure of the wrist in the backward direction but to allow movement of the hand in the other three planes. When not playing, the user may adjust the support to a neutral position to allow movement of the hand in all four planes. The wrist support comprises an arm plate and a hand plate pivotally coupled together and adapted to be secured to the top of the arm and hand respectively. The two plates are pivotally coupled together for movement about two different axes to allow movement of the hand plate and hence the hand in all four planes. A stop is slidably coupled to the top of the arm plate and which may be slid to a restricting position above the hand plate for restricting motion of the hand plate and hence the hand in the backward direction.

  • Patent number: 3965810
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an apparatus for cracking nuts that comprises back and front end plates connected together by a plurality of rods. The rods are attached at their end portions to the respective plates by pivotal connections and are spaced and disposed in an array that together with the plates defines an enclosure. One of the plates contains an aperture for the insertion of a nut to be cracked within the enclosure defined by the rods. Rotating one plate with respect to the other constricts the enclosed space, thereby cracking the nut within.

  • Patent number: 3959544
Abstract: Following is disclosed structural apparatus and methods of construction of plied filamentary tape including a first ply of impregnated, unidirectional fibers extending along the longitudinal axis of the structural member to form a truss cap. Overlying the first ply are second and third angle plies having fibers transverse to each other and oblique relative to those of the first ply. Portions of the second and third plies may be folded transversely to the plane of the first ply to form one or more shear webs of selected geometry. A portion of each shear web consists of an excess width of ply for attachment to another structural member. The impregnation matrix bonds the plies to each other and to another structural member to form a selected structure. A cart structure embodying the principles of the invention is also disclosed.
