Abstract: A synthetic speech system includes a phoneme segment storage section for storing multiple phoneme segment data pieces; a synthesis section for generating voice data from text by reading phoneme segment data pieces representing the pronunciation of an inputted text from the phoneme segment storage section and connecting the phoneme segment data pieces to each other; a computing section for computing a score indicating the unnaturalness of the voice data representing the synthetic speech of the text; a paraphrase storage section for storing multiple paraphrases of the multiple first phrases; a replacement section for searching the text and replacing with appropriate paraphrases; and a judgment section for outputting generated voice data on condition that the computed score is smaller than a reference value and for inputting the text after the replacement to the synthesis section to cause the synthesis section to further generate voice data for the text.
Abstract: A Bluetooth master radio frequency unit addresses a slave radio frequency unit, to enable the slave to synchronize to the master, by sending poll packets and optionally null packets over an active link, the master being arranged so that receipt of a response from the slave unit to a poll packet is sufficient to maintain the active link. The slave unit does not have to respond to all of the poll packets. This approach can allow the slave to preserve more (transmit) power by going into a deep sleep mode in which a low power oscillator may be used while still allowing the master unit to detect whether the slave has resynchronized or not (and thus to update a Link Supervision Timer, for example).
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for setting up a write current on at least one write conducting line in an MRAM type integrated circuit memory, including a current mirror composed of a first stage acting as the reference regulated cascode stage receiving all or part of the write current on its input and a second stage acting as the copy regulated cascode stage copying the write current onto the write line.

Abstract: A packet of data is received from a LAN and transmitted over a WAN, by retaining the native LAN frame format of the packet during transmission across the WAN. Thus, LAN data may be transmitted over a SONET point-to-point link within a WAN network without the interim steps of creating ATM cells or other WAN transport packaging protocols. Instead, the LAN data may be transmitted directly over the SONET link as raw data, and reconstructed directly at the receiving end of the SONET link. A first buffer stores data from the LAN so that a corresponding packet size may be determined, and a second buffer stores data from the WAN to account for any speed difference between the LAN circuitry and WAN circuitry.

Abstract: A solid-state electrosurgical generator is disclosed which provides three separate output circuits that may be operated from a single common power source. One of the output circuits produces an output electrical waveform which is optimized for cutting and coagulation with monopolar electrodes. Another circuit provides a waveform which is optimized for cutting and coagulation with bipolar electrodes. The other electrosurgical circuit produces an output electrical waveform which is optimized for fulguration. The output circuits produce the optimized waveforms by appropriately processing electrical power provided by a D.C. power source. In order to do this, the output circuits may be connected to the power source by means of four semiconductor switches may be arranged in either a bridge configuration for one output circuit or in a series arrangement for the other output circuit.
