Abstract: Methods and compositions for treating inflammatory and proliferative diseases, enabling treatment of MDR tumor cells by using combination of compounds, or a bifunctional compound, that inhibits both fatty acid metabolism and glycolysis. In particular, the invention combines or links a glycolysis inhibitor that is, or that is derived from, hypoglycin A (also referred to as hypoglycine A) and a fatty acid metabolism inhibitor. Preferably, the invention provides bifunctional compounds that link a moiety having the functionality of an oxirane carboxylic acid compound to a moiety having the functionality a hypoglycin A derivative. In specific embodiments, the invention provides a bifunctional compound that links a moiety having the functionality of etomoxir to a moiety having the functionality of hypoglycin A.

Abstract: A system and method for controlling operation of a transducer circuit, e.g., including an acoustic transducer arranged to cause mixing, cavitation or other movement in a liquid contained in a vessel located remote from the transducer. A load current of a transformer used to generate a drive signal for the transducer may be controlled to vary sinusoidally, to vary between negative and positive values and such that the load current flows in a closed loop when a zero voltage bias is applied across the primary transformer winding, to have a reduced or eliminated 3rd harmonic mode and/or to vary between three discrete modes including a forward current mode, a zero voltage loop current mode, and a freewheel current mode. An inverter circuit may be used to control the load current, e.g., so that the load current flows in a closed loop during portions of the control cycle.

Abstract: This invention concerns a sofa which solves the problems of the prior art by providing a sofa that can easily be assembled or disassembled by the end consumer at home. The disassembled sofa can be stored in 3 flat boxes. Storage in the flat boxes not only helps the warehouse to store the sofa, but when the end user has purchased the sofa it is easier in such flat boxes to transport it to the location where it will be assembled. The way this invention accomplishes these results is as follows: The parts of the sofa can be broken down into three boxes. Chaise sections can be assembled by placing the seat back flat on the ground and placing the seat frame/arm upright on top of the seat back. A metal threaded rod is used to connect the seat frame and the seat back. A metal nut is used to secure the seat frame to the back using a wrench that comes provided in the package of the kit. The legs are then twisted onto the bottom of the seat frame.

Abstract: Articles, compositions, kits and methods relating to nanostructures, including those that can sequester molecules such as cholesterol, are provided. Certain embodiments described herein include structures having a core-shell type arrangement; for instance, a nanoparticle core may be surrounded by a shell including a material, such as a lipid bilayer, that can interact with cholesterol and/or other lipids, and an apolipoprotein may be bound to at least the outer surface of the shell. In some embodiments, the structures, when introduced to a subject, can sequester cholesterol and/or other lipids and remove them from circulation. Accordingly, the structures described herein may be used to diagnose, prevent, treat or manage certain diseases or bodily conditions, especially those associated with abnormal lipid levels.

Abstract: A handsfree call apparatus includes: a speaker held in the vicinity of a user's ear by a holding unit with a speaker unit thereof not being attached to a baffle board so as to mix sounds emitted from the front and back of a diaphragm thereof; a microphone, which is provided to a region where sounds emitted from the front and back of the diaphragm of the speaker are mixed and canceled out, configured to collect the call voice of the user; an output unit configured to output a call voice signal of the user from the microphone to transmit this to a call partner; and an input unit configured to receive a call voice signal from the call partner to supply this to the speaker.
Abstract: A medical form is marked by a clinician during a patient/clinician encounter to generate a record with information related to a current complaint. The form is partitioned into several regions related to patient history, examination and medical decision, respectively. The form is automatically analyzed and using the locations of the marks on the form and a predetermined set of rules, a billing code is generated. The billing code determines the fee to be paid to the clinician or health provider.

Abstract: A method for testing a memory device. The memory device includes a matrix of memory cells having a plurality of rows and columns; the matrix includes a plurality of rows of operative memory cells each one for storing a variable value and at least one row of auxiliary memory cells each one storing a fixed value. The memory device further includes writing circuitry for writing selected values into the operative memory cells, and reading circuitry for reading the values being stored from the operative or auxiliary memory cells. The method includes reading output values from the row of auxiliary memory cells, determining a malfunctioning of the memory device in response to a missing match of the output values with the fixed values, determining a cause of the malfunctioning according to a pattern of reading errors between the output values and the corresponding fixed values, and providing a signal indicative of the cause of the malfunctioning.
