Abstract: Localization methods and methods for localizing a light source using multivariate statistical analysis. In particular, a multi-variate distribution, such as a multi-variate normal distribution, may be used to localize photons originating from a light source and, in particular, may be used to analyze photon position maps acquired by Photon Event Distribution Sampling (PEDS). The multi-variate distribution assigned to each of the photons in the photon position map may be summed to predict a most probable location for the light source.

The method includes preparing a multi-layer mask on a substrate, wherein the multi-layer mask includes a lithographic layer and an intermediate mask layer underlying the lithographic layer, and wherein the intermediate mask layer comprises a carbon-containing compound.
Abstract: A bedding foundation having a nestably stackable spring assembly including a border wire having a generally rectangular cross-section. The foundation's spring assembly may be nestably stacked with numerous other such assemblies for transportation, thereby avoiding the need to compress and tie the assembly for shipping. Each foundation assembly includes a number of corrugated support wires having alternating peaks and valleys. The border wire is generally rectangular in cross-section to reduce wire costs without compromising beam strength of the border wire.

Abstract: Methods for operating a material dispensing system. The method includes measuring numerical values of an operating parameter, such as line velocity, material pressure, or material temperature, of the dispensing system to predict a future numerical value of the operating parameter. The predicted numerical value of the operating parameter is used to accurately define a start time, which is measured from the detection of the presence of a workpiece being transported past an applicator of the dispensing system, at which to initiate dispensing of the material from the applicator. A calibration procedure is provided for deriving a mathematical relationship used to determine the predicted numerical value of the operating parameter.
Abstract: A cup-holding device configured to be retrofitted to an armrest or other horizontal support structure. The cup-holding device has a basket in a seat mounting portion wherein there is sufficient rigidity of the structure to hold a cup with a fluid mass therein.
Abstract: In a method for controlling an aircraft air conditioning system, a correlation is established between a plurality of values of a process air mass flow supplied to an air conditioning unit of the aircraft air conditioning system and the fuel consumption of the aircraft. A correlation is also established between a plurality of values of an ambient air mass flow which is used to cool the process air mass flow supplied to the air conditioning unit of the aircraft air conditioning system and the fuel consumption of the aircraft. The process air mass flow and the ambient air mass flow are controlled in dependence on a predetermined cooling capacity of the aircraft air conditioning system such that the fuel consumption of the aircraft is minimized.
Abstract: A physical shield placed on the face of a high intensity focused ultrasound transducer for medical applications is described. The shield may be shaped or angled to match a particular pattern of mechanical or acoustic energy that may damage the transducer during operation. The shield may be ablative, replaceable or modified as needed. Methods of manufacturing a transducer with a shield are also disclosed.

Abstract: Plasma treatment systems and methods for distributing RF energy to electrodes in a plasma treatment system. The plasma treatment system includes power and ground busses, positive and negative phase primary electrode busses, and positive and negative phase secondary electrode busses. The power and ground busses are coupled to the secondary electrode busses by isolation transformers so that the negative phase secondary electrode buss is provided with an RF signal that is 180 degrees out of phase with the RF signal supplied to the positive phase secondary electrode buss. The secondary electrode busses are coupled to respective positive and negative phase primary electrode busses by capacitors. The primary electrode busses are each coupled to electrodes in the vacuum chamber. Load coils coupling the primary electrode busses to an RF ground may cooperative with the capacitors to adjust the input impedance at the power buss.

Abstract: A multithreaded rendering software pipeline architecture utilizes a rolling context data structure to store multiple contexts that are associated with different image elements that are being processed in the software pipeline. Each context stores state data for a particular image element, and the association of each image element with a context is maintained as the image element is passed from stage to stage of the software pipeline, thus ensuring that the state used by the different stages of the software pipeline when processing the image element remains coherent irrespective of state changes made for other image elements being processed by the software pipeline. Multiple image elements may therefore be processed concurrently by the software pipeline, and often without regard for synchronization or serialization of state changes that affect only certain image elements.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device for the cross-referencing of identification (1) of tissue slice supports (2), for microtomised analytical samples still to be mounted thereon, with identification information (3) of a tissue sample holder (4) of a tissue sample (5) which is not yet microtomised. The conventional problem of cross-referencing is improved in a simple manner, whereby the identification information (3) for the tissue sample holder (4) is automatically detected when positioned in the microtome (6) and an identification (1) corresponding thereto is automatically transferred to at least one tissue slice support (2) and that tissue slice support (2), provided with the identification (1), is dispensed for application of the tissue sample slice at the moment when a tissue sample slice must be applied to a tissue slice support (2).
Abstract: A centrifuge rotor is provided having a rotor core that defines a rotational axis of the rotor. A plurality of bucket supports is arranged about the axis of rotation. The rotor includes first and second straps that respectively wrap around two diametrically-opposed ones of the bucket supports for restricting outward movement of the two bucket supports relative to the rotor core. The first and second straps intersect one another at a location through the axis of rotation of the rotor.
Abstract: An active wheel desiccant dehumidifier is controlled for improved energy savings by modulating operation characteristics including process air flow, reactivation air flow, temperatures, and wheel rotation in response to changing conditions.
Abstract: The invention relates to an improved aircraft electronics cooling system for an aircraft having a liquid cooling system (2), the aircraft electronics cooling system providing a thermal coupling between an electronic device (40a, 40b, 40c, 40d, 42, 44) to be cooled and the liquid cooling system (2) of the aircraft. A coolant delivered by the liquid cooling system (2) may flow through a board of the electronic device (40a, 40b, 40c, 40d), through a heat sink on which the electronic device (42) is arranged and/or through a housing in which the electronic device (44) is arranged. The coolant may be permanently in the liquid state in a cooling circuit. The coolant may vaporize at least partially while cooling the electronic device.
