  • Patent number: 8296281
Abstract: A computer-implemented system and method processes flight position information and provides a notification to a remote user in response to a triggering event. Typically, flight position data is received over a digital network. The service accepts requests for notification based upon the position of a specified flight and subsequently provides that notification based upon the flight position data. Upon receiving a user query, a server retrieves a result set from the flight position data and determines if the triggering criteria has been met. In one form, the requested notification may be presented to the user in the form of an e-mail, telephone call, text message or the like. Also disclosed is a system for flight tracking or planning which includes photographs supplied by remote users of the aircraft for which the tracking or planning is associated, for use by other remote users that see the association of the supplied photos with the tracked or planned flight.

  • Patent number: 8295213
Abstract: A method for uplink transmission based on a time division duplex (TDD) system is provided. In the method, a terminal measures downlink channel state information, estimates the state information of the uplink spatial channel using the channel reciprocity of the TDD system, and selects an uplink spatial pre-coding matrix using the state information of the uplink spatial channel based on a certain criterion, the terminal executes spatial pre-coding using the selected pre-coding matrix, and transmits the data stream to a base station via terminal transmit antennae. A terminal, a base station and a system which are based on the method are also provided. The invention uses the reciprocity of the TDD system channel fully to achieve the maximal channel capacity, thereby optimizes the uplink spatial-transmission.

  • Patent number: 8287488
Abstract: A holographic occlusion detection system has a white-light holographic label placed onto a sensing portion or surface of a pressure sensor connected to infusion tubing. The pressure sensor at the sensing portion can have a relatively thin wall section and may be wider and flatter than a normal cross section of the infusion tubing. The label is then illuminated by a polychromatic light source, and the light reflected off the holographic label is then received by a photodetector. Pressure changes within the tubing cause a change in orientation of the white-light holographic label, thereby resulting in a shift in the peak wavelength of the reflective light sensed by the photodetector. This shift in wavelength can then be calibrated to the swelling of the sensing portion so that pressure within the infusion line can be calculated. In another variation, monochromatic light is reflected off a holographic label, and pressure changes are detected by measuring the amplitude of the reflected light.

  • Patent number: 8287703
Abstract: An electrochemical biosensor with electrode elements that possess smooth, high-quality edges. These smooth edges define gaps between electrodes, electrode traces and contact pads. Due to the remarkable edge smoothness achieved with the present invention, the gaps can be quite small, which provides marked advantages in terms of test accuracy, speed and the number of different functionalities that can be packed into a single biosensor. Further, the present invention provides a novel biosensor production method in which entire electrode patterns for the inventive biosensors can be formed all at one, in nanoseconds—without regard to the complexity of the electrode patterns or the amount of conductive material that must be ablated to form them.

  • Patent number: 8282112
Abstract: A vehicle has first and second rear drive wheels that are driven independently of each other and a pair of front wheels that freely rotate about a vertical axis wherein the rear drive wheels and the front wheels are rotatably mounted to a frame. A locking mechanism is operatively connected to the pair of front wheels to restrain the rotation of the front wheels about the vertical axis and maintain the pair of front wheels in a forward position while the operator engages the locking mechanism. When the operator releases the locking mechanism, the locking mechanism is removed from the pair of front wheels and the pair of front wheels are free to rotate about the vertical axis.

  • Patent number: 8277825
Abstract: The present invention utilizes a fatty acid as an attractant in a method of attracting whiteflies. By using a fatty acid as a whitefly attractant, it is possible to attract whiteflies to a desired location. The fatty acid can be used in a lure or other propagator to provide a dispersion of fatty acid in the air, the variation in the concentration of the fatty acid in the air being such that a whitefly is attracted to the lure as the source of the fatty acid. The use of a fatty acid as an attractant results in significantly higher levels of attraction, as measured by the number of whiteflies attracted to a sticky trap, as compared to the use of color alone.

  • Patent number: 8276739
Abstract: Individual items or multiple items are stored on vertical stacks (or racks) of conveyors. The stacks of conveyors are located on both sides of a vertical transport on which cartons, totes, and/or pallets are loaded. The vertical transport is able to be vertically lifted in a fashion similar to an elevator so that the totes on the conveyor can receive items from the various levels of the storage rack conveyors. To speed up the loading process, items can be loaded in the containers simultaneously from both sides of the container and/or sequentially. In one form, a cross-belt conveyor is used to load the items. Alternatively or additionally, robotic arms can be used to load the items. One or more conveyor drivers can be used to power multiple conveyors in order to index items to a loading position on the conveyors.
