  • Patent number: 6324571
Abstract: A system for switching exclusive authority to perform a predefined system-wide task between machines in a network comprises: a database having an attribute for identifying a master server in the domain to exclusively perform the predefined network-wide task. The database is replicated on each of the servers in the domain. The attribute may be changed so as to change the master server to another one of the servers in the domain. While multiple servers in the network may be physically capable of performing the predefined system-wide task, at any one time only one server may be designated as the master server. The master server role may, however, be “floated” among various servers in the network. At any particular moment, the machine which currently holds the master server role is referred to as the master server role owner and is identified in an attribute, role owner, that is stored on each server in the network.

  • Patent number: 6324026
Abstract: A storage media is disclosed and comprises a storage body and a readable indelible mark formed in the body such that portions thereof are indelibly altered. The mark is read by writing first data to the body in the region of the mark, and reading second data from the body in such region. The written first data is not accepted where the portions of the body are indelibly altered. Accordingly, the read second data corresponds to the written first data with segments thereof missing. The missing segments of the first data correspond to the portions of the body indelibly altered. In a preferred embodiment, the storage media comprises a magnetic rotatable disk having a substantially planar substrate and a magnetizable layer deposited thereon. The reading and writing are therefore performed magnetically.

  • Patent number: 6320364
Abstract: A start signal is supplied to MOS transistor Q8, MOS transistor Q8 is turned on, the first current mirror circuit is driven, and the same mirror current flows in MOS transistors Q4-Q7. Then, of two MOS transistors Q8 and Q9 that compose the second current mirror circuit, to MOS transistor Q8 is connected a resistor R2 and to MOS transistor Q9 is supplied a reference signal (Vref). According to such a configuration, reference current (Iref) that is generated in resistor R2 becomes current corresponding to the reference signal (Vref), and thereby output current (Iout) is outputted from MOS transistor Q7 based on this reference current (Iref).

  • Patent number: 6319064
Abstract: A modular jack has an insulative insert having outer walls defining a first recess therein. The insert is mounted within an insulating housing interior section. A cap having outer walls defining a second recess therein is mounted within the insert first recess so that the first and second recesses together form an internal cavity for receiving an electrical device. First and second elongate portions of a conductive contact together securely grasp the insert outer wall and a bridging portion of the contact resides at the insert outer wall edge. The cap also has a rear wall having a rear face that faces in a rear direction, and the contact also has a rear portion adjacent the cap and facing in the rear direction. The cap rear wall rear face extends farther in the rear direction than the contact rear portion. A grounding shield fits over the jack and has a planar rear panel with a rear face that faces in the rear direction. The rear panel covers the cap rear wall rear face and the contact rear portion.

  • Patent number: 6315605
Abstract: A stiffener assembly for mechanically supporting the main body of an electrical connector to a circuit substrate, such as a daughterboard Printed Circuit Board (PCB). The PCB stiffener assembly is utilized to minimize bowing in the PC Board. The stiffener assembly includes a two-piece or split body having a top clamp and a bottom channel. A latch formed on the top clamp fits over and connectively engages a retention structure disposed on a rear surface of the connector housing. A bottom portion of the top clamp is disposed within the bottom channel. The bottom channel rests on the PCB and the legs of the bottom channel extend upward form the surface of the PCB. One leg of the bottom channel rest against the rear panel and fits under the retention structure. Fasteners pass through the PCB and the bottom channel and engage the top clamp thereby retaining the connector on the PCB.
