  • Patent number: 4421231
Abstract: A display and storage package for an elongated flat article embodies a generally rectangular pocket defined by superimposed flexible sheets of a width greater than the width of the elongated article. The flexible sheets are joined to each other along spaced apart, longitudinal side edges and along one end edge, with the other end of the pocket being open for receiving the elongated article. An intermediate projection extends inwardly from one longitudinal side of the pocket and longitudinally spaced end projections extend inwardly from the other longitudinal sides of the pocket. The projections are so positioned relative to each other that the elongated article is movable inwardly of the intermediate projection as one end of the elongated article is moved inwardly relative to its end projection and the other end of the elongated article is moved outwardly relative to its end projection.

  • Patent number: 4417680
Abstract: Apparatus for feeding pieces of lumber along a path with the center lines of the pieces extending along a preselected datum plane in the direction of the path. A plurality of spaced apart, upper and lower transverse members are mounted for rotation about horizontal axes at opposite sides of the datum plane with the lower side of each upper transverse member and the upper side of each lower transverse member traveling in the direction of the path of movement of the lumber to provide oppositely disposed transverse members at opposite sides of the datum plane. Outwardly projecting lumber engaging members carried by the oppositely disposed transverse members are yieldably urged toward the adjacent sides of the pieces of lumber therebetween with substantially equal force to maintain the center line of the pieces of lumber along the preselected datum plane.

  • Patent number: 4416664
Abstract: A catheter securing device embodies a supporting pad-like member having a first flexible strap extending laterally therefrom to encircle a leg of a person. Cooperating fastener members are carried by facing surfaces of the strap when encircling the leg to detachably connect the pad-like member about the leg. An elongated resilient gripping member is carried by the pad-like member in position to at least partially encircle the catheter tube and restrain movement thereof relative to the pad-like member. A second flexible strap is carried by the pad-like member adjacent one side of the gripping member and is adapted to extend over the gripping member and engage a retainer element carried by the pad-like member adjacent the other side of the gripping member. Connector elements carried by the second strap engage adjacent fastener members carried by the first flexible strap to retain the catheter within the gripping member.

  • Patent number: 4407047
Abstract: A cotton ginning system embodying a lint cleaner and a process of operating the same in which the batt of cotton delivered to the lint cleaner is maintained at an optimum thickness even though the rate of ginning varies. The batt thickness is maintained by correlating the same with the rate of feed of seed cotton to the system. Controls are provided to assure that the batt remains at optimum thickness, and such optimum thickness is assured by sensing the rate of input of seed cotton to the system.

  • Patent number: 4405148
Abstract: A tow bar insert for use with a conventional Volkswagen tow bar for towing a towed vehicle, such as a Volkswagen Super Beetle, embodies a U-shaped member adapted to fit within upstanding brackets at the end of the tow bar which is connected to the towed vehicle. A transverse load bearing member carried by each U-shaped member is positioned to engage an adjacent control arm extending laterally between the frame and each front wheel assembly of the towed vehicle. A retainer element detachably connects each U-shaped member to its upstanding bracket and limits movement of the U-shaped member relative to its control arm. A connector arm carried by one U-shaped member engages a sway bar connected to the control arms to center the tow bar underneath the front end of the towed vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4399782
Abstract: A device for transmitting power from a power driving unit to a driven member of an internal combustion engine embodies a first power transmitting member having one end adapted to be detachably connected to the power driving unit. A second power transmitting member in axial alignment with the first power transmitting member has one end adapted to be detachably connected to the driven member of the internal combustion engine. Cooperating male and female threaded members are carried by adjacent end portions of the first and second power transmitting members. Upon rotation of the cooperating members in one direction, the adjacent end portions of the power transmitting members move toward each other and engage each other to transmit power from the power driving unit to the driven member of the internal combustion engine. A resilient member operatively connects the power transmitting members to each other and absorbs shock and kick-back forces generated by the driven member of the internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 4396511
Abstract: A boom is mounted for pivotal movement about the center from which the arcuate shape of a filter screen is struck and a cleaner is pivoted to the free end of the boom. A single reversible drive unit is operatively connected to the cleaner for exerting a force thereto to tilt the cleaner toward a cleaning position. A stop operatively and rigidly connects the cleaner to the boom to transmit force from the cleaner to the boom as a pivotal force only after the cleaner is tilted to the cleaning position to thus rigidly connect the drive unit and cleaner to the boom.

  • Patent number: 4392952
Abstract: A bar screen with a screen cleaner has a vertically movable carriage with a rake pivotally connected thereto by pivot arms. A foldable lever assembly is pivotally connected to the carriage and to the pivot arms and assures a fully extended position and a folded position which correspond to a position of engagement of the rake with the screen and a position of disengagement of the rake with the screen, respectively. A lower stop engages the foldable lever assembly and moves it from a folded position to an intermediate folded position at the end of downward movement of the carriage and before the lever assembly reaches fully extended position so that the rake remains in a position of disengagement with the screen during downward movement of the carriage and is held in this position until the lever assembly is moved to fully extended position in response to upward movement of the carriage.

  • Patent number: 4387637
Abstract: A device for crushing containers embodies a base having a supporting surface for receiving the container to be crushed. Upstanding crushing members are mounted for rectilinear movement along the supporting surface selectively to a first position in spaced relation to each other for receiving the container to be crushed and to a second position with the crushing members being juxtaposed relative to each other to crush the container. Elongated power transmitting members are connected to the crushing members and are mounted for sliding movement along the supporting surface. A power transmitting element is mounted for rotation above each power transmitting member and imparts rectilinear movement thereto and to the crushing members carried thereby selectively to their first and second positions.
