Abstract: A roof membrane and a roof system employing a EPDM membrance which is compatible with a bituminous adhesive. The membrance includes an outer layer of polymeric layer such as EPDM bonded to a polyester protective layer which is in turn bonded to a fleecy material. This can be adhered to a roof deck surface using hot asphalt or bitumen which bonds the fleecy material to the roof deck in turn holding the EPDM in place. The polyester layer prevents the asphaltic material from attacking and dissolving the EPDM with the fleecy material providing good adhesion between the polyester and the EPDM.

Abstract: The present invention pertains to a device for applying fluid material on a substrate. The device includes a valve body, a pole piece, and an electromagnetic drive unit that generates a magnetic field that moves the valve body relative to a pole piece between a closed position that interrupts the flow of material and an open position that releases the flow of material. The effect of the magnetic field provided by the drive unit is strengthened by the presence of a flux element. The flux element incorporates a portion, such as a slit, that eliminates circumferential electrical current paths, which allows the flux element to demagnetize more quickly when the drive unit is de-energized to remove the electromagnetic field. The rapid demagnetization decreases the cycle time for moving the valve body from the open position to the closed position.
Abstract: A high voltage capacitor has a monolithic body made of layers of dielectric material and further has first and second external contacts located on the body. First and second nonoverlapping electrodes electrically connected to the respective first and second contacts are located on respective first and second layers of dielectric material within the body. A floating electrode not connected to either of the contacts is located on a different, third layer of dielectric material. The floating electrode overlaps the first and second electrodes and forms two serially connected capacitors therewith.
Abstract: A method of powder coating a workpiece in a housing having a powder coating area with a workpiece travel path and an interior wall surface sloped around at least a portion of the workpiece travel path includes moving air and powder in the powder coating area along at least a portion of the sloped interior wall surface. As a result, a swirling flow pattern of the air and powder is produced around at least a portion of the workpiece travel path. The workpiece is conveyed along the workpiece travel path, and powder is deposited from the swirling flow pattern onto the workpiece along the portion of the workpiece travel path around which the interior wall slopes.

Abstract: Ink jet printing is provided onto rigid panels such as foamboard and contoured material using ultraviolet (UV) light curable ink, which is first at least partially cured with UV light and then may be subjected to heating. Printhead-to-panel spacing is controllable to maintain a predetermined constant distance from the printing element to the surface of the panel where the ink is to be applied. Each of a plurality of printheads may be independently moveable to control the spacing of the printheads from the substrate surface. Sensors on the printhead carriage measure the shape, or vertical position of, the printhead's distance from the printhead carriage to the surface of the substrate being printed. The position or focal length of the UV light curing head may be varied to maintain focus of the UV light on the ink on a contoured surface of the substrate.
Abstract: An autoclavable battery for use with electrical equipment in operative procedures includes a series of electrochemical cells surrounded by insulation and hermetically sealed in a battery case. The insulation has a thickness and thermal conductivity effective to prevent the cells from reaching their venting temperature when subjected to autoclave conditions.
Abstract: An iPVD apparatus (20) is programmed to deposit material (10) into high aspect ratio submicron features (11) on semiconductor substrates (21) by cycling between deposition and etch modes within a vacuum chamber (30). The modes operate at different power and pressure parameters. Pressure of more than 50 mTorr, for example, is used for sputtering material from a target while pressure of less than a few mTorr, for example, is used to etch. Bias power on the substrate is an order of magnitude higher for etching, producing several hundred volt bias for etching, but only a few tens of volts for deposition. The alternating etching modes remove deposited material that overhangs edges of features on the substrate, removes some of the deposited material from the bottoms (15) of the features, and resputters the removed deposited material onto sidewalls (16) of the features. The substrate (21) is cooled during deposition and etching, and particularly during etching to substantially below 0° C.

Abstract: Method of determining a surface illuminated by incident light. First the intensity (I1(x,y)) of light reflected from the surface is recorded in a first image of the surface. After this, the intensity (I2(x,y)) of light reflected from the surface is recorded in a second image of the surface, taken at a different angle of illumination. Only the diffusely reflected light is recorded. The difference between the recorded intensities of the first and the second images is determined to obtain a representation that emphasizes variations in gradient of the surface. This representation is further processed by signal-adapted integration to a topographic description, that is, a height function of the surface.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a gas exchange valve drive for a valve-controlled combustion engine with a hollow cylindrical rotor (16) to be coupled with a valve member (12) and a stator (18), wherein the rotor (16) comprises permanent-magnetic rings (30) concentrically arranged one above the other, the stator (18) is at least partially constructed of a soft magnetic material and comprises at least one tooth (22) facing towards the rotor (16), the stator (18) comprises a radially inner magnetically conductive area (50) and a radially outer magnetically conductive area (52), with the rings (30) of the rotor (16) being arranged between the inner area (50) and the outer area (52) of the stator (18), and the outer area (52) of the stator (18) in at least one partial section (54) is designed with a C-shaped cross-section and comprises at least one stator coil (28).
Abstract: A dental color matching system. A series of translucent films are printed with a variety of colors that closely approximate the colors found in human teeth. The films, or sections of the films, may be reversibly self-adhesive for ease in placing on and removing from a template, or on top of one another, in a sequence until the desired or matching color is obtained. The color is communicated among dental professionals and patient, for example, by indicia that encode the different colors found in a shade system used by dental professionals or in the tooth itself. By using the invention, a dental professional can thus economically and efficiently prepare a dental prosthesis with a color that closely matches that of a patient's natural tooth.
Abstract: A device and method for turning and relaxing compressed springs in pocket sections of a spring pocket row is provided. The device comprises a push rod having a lower limb and a connection rod. A first linear drive pivots the push rod about a vertical axis and the second linear drive raises and lowers the push rod. During a working stroke the first linear drive pivots the push rod so at least one compressed spring is seized and displaced in a pocket section. The push rod is returned to its original position before the spring pocket row is advanced. The process is then repeated.
Abstract: A waste funnel system for pouring liquids into a container. The waste funnel system has an adapter with a closure that can be mounted to an opening of the container. A funnel body has a cover that is pivotally connected to the funnel body and is used to open and close an inlet end of the funnel. The funnel body is also assembled in the adapter, thereby permitting different size funnel bodies to be assembled with the same container closure. A ventilation path extends between the funnel body and the adapter to permit vapors to be displaced from an interior of the container. In addition, a screen disposed in a liquid path between inlet and outlet ends of the funnel body prevents objects from passing through the funnel system.
Abstract: A system, device, and method for determining whether an individual has consumed, is intoxicated, or is otherwise impaired by alcohol is disclosed. Further, a device capable of positively identifying the person who provides the impairment test is disclosed. The impairment detection and interlock system disclosed accomplishes this with the use of a video camera that selectively saves images, and an attitude evaluator and, in some embodiments, an exposure evaluator, which ensures that the video camera captures the identity of the tester. A device holster may also be used to facilitate video surveillance.
