    Abstract: A machine for processing fallen trees into split logs. A mobile frame having wheels mounted thereto includes a wench having an extendable cable removably attachable to the fallen tree. The cable extends through a chute to enable the fallen trees to be pulled therethrough. A hydraulically driven saw pivotally mounted at the end of the chute is operable to cut off portions of the fallen tree. The cut-off portion rests atop a ramp which has an inclined surface allowing the cut-off portion to be rolled into a splitter. The splitter includes a hydraulically operated ram slidably mounted in a secondary frame mounted atop the main frame of the machine. The ram is moveable towards a pair of intersecting stationary cutting blades for splitting the cut-off portion of the tree into split logs.

    Abstract: A glove or a mitten having a water proof membrane mounted therein. A membrane includes a plurality of outwardly extending tabs sealingly mounted thereto. The outer end of the membranes are secured to an outer shell which conformingly fits around the membrane. An inner liner is fixedly secured to the inwardly projecting ends of the tabs with the inner lining fitting within the water tight membrane. The outer shell, intermediate membrane and inner liner are all configured as a glove or a mitten being closed on all sides except one to allow the extension of a hand into the inner liner. Withdrawal forces applied by the hand against the inner liner are transferred through the tabs directly to the outer shell isolating the membrane from withdrawal forces.

    Abstract: A curtainsided van body has at least one open vertical side closable by a curtain incorporating straps or similar for constraining the curtain in a vertical plane. The straps or similar have at or adjacent their lower ends rave-engaging hooks. The van body has a floor for supporting cargo and a rave along said at least one open vertical side and engagable by said hooks to constrain the curtain vertically. The rave is height adjustable relative to the floor to provide a sill level with the floor to accommodate cargo extending to the floor edge, or above the floor to provide a bottom restraint for cargo. The rave may be unitary or comprise relatively adjustable inner and outer rave members.

    Abstract: A dual lumen hemodialysis catheter. The catheter includes a tube having a circular external cross section which is rotatably received within a fitting. The fitting may be attached to the patient by sutures or the like and rotatably mounts the tube of the catheter. Stop means are provided on opposite sides of the fitting preventing the tube of the catheter from moving longitudinally relative to the fitting. The catheter may be rotated relative to the fitting in order to readjust the rotational position of the tube inside the patient's blood vessel without longitudinal movement of the tube. The catheter is cut off at its distal end perpendicularly to the length of the tube in order to define the mouth of one lumen. The tube is tapered from the cut off distal end to a point proximal of the distal end, said point being approximately 3 cm from the distal end. The taper of the tube defines at least a portion of the mouth of the second lumen.

A pair of cross members are pivotally mounted to the upstanding posts of the frames and have their outer distal ends positioned and hingedly secured together. A sleeve rigidly attached to one distal end of the cross member extends around the adjacent distal end of the second cross member. A window in the sleeve forms a stop surface through which a projection on the other distal end extends limiting the amount of relative motion between the cross frames.

    Abstract: A system and method of delivering dried fine fuel. Moist coal is extracted from a source and initially dried to a moisture content of five percent by a gas fired dryer plant. The initially dried fuel is then transported to a central processing site whereat the coal is pulverized and further dried and fed to a storage silo. Tractor-trailers receive the dried fine coal from the storage silo and transport same to the end user's site. The trailer is disconnected from the tractor and is utilized as a storage tank as the coal is withdrawn therefrom on an as-needed basis. A fuel injector coupled to a variable rate feeder is utilized in one embodiment to convey the dried fine fuel from the trailer to the burner.

    Abstract: A box spring assembly has an array of vertical springs attached to a horizontal foundation and supporting a deck or platform for receiving a bedding load, i.e. a mattress and its occupant(s). The assembly has a plurality of deck elements each formed from a single length of wire with an elongate central section terminating in curved sections extending at least in some elements into spring legs. The deck elements are arranged in parallel lengthwise rows with adjacent elements of each row having aligned central sections. Adjacent curved sections are secured to each other and to adjacent rows by transverse helical connecting elements. The central sections of the spring elements and the transverse helical connecting elements together form the deck for receiving the bedding load. This deck is supported by the spring legs which are secured at their lower ends to the foundation.

In one embodiment, an on-off gas valve includes an extension threadedly mounted thereto with an insert positioned between the extension and valve. A spring biased safety valve has a stem slidably mounted to the insert and is operable to close the passage in the insert preventing fluid flow. In another embodiment the tube is attached to an insert positioned in the tank passage receiving an on-off valve.

    Abstract: A trimming apparatus for receiving from a book trimmer the elongated glued book trimmings which have a glued end at one end in the elongated direction and for trimming the glued end. The apparatus comprises a chute for receiving the book trimming and placing the trimming between a chain belt conveyor which has receptacles for those trimmings. The trimmings are moved along the conveyor to and between a pair of rotary cutting blades so that the glued portion of the trimming is cut from the unglued portion of the trimming. The portions are separated so that the glued portions fall into one bin and the clean paper portions fall into a second bin. A related method for separating the glued end of a book trimming from the remainder of the trimming is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A fluid shear coupling apparatus is disclosed herein which includes a driving member received within a working chamber defined by a driven member. The driven member is mounted with needle bearings to a shaft portion of the driving member to have the members rotatable about a common axis. The driving and driven members include complementary shaped and positioned fluid shear and thrust surfaces defining fluid shear and thrust chambers, respectively, therebetween and cooperable with shear fluid within the chamber to transmit torque and axial thrust loads between the members. The fluid shear surfaces are defined by interdigitated ridges and grooves. A shear fluid reservoir is located in the central portion of the driven member and passageways lead from an annular groove and cylindrical cavity adjacent the driving member back to the reservoir.

    Abstract: A remote, manual shift system cooperating with the clutch, throttle and gear shift stick of a manual transmission vehicle for use during engine testing includes a series of five sensors, one each for vehicle speed, throttle position, clutch position, X-axis gear shift position and Y-axis gear shift position. These five sensors are operable to record and compile actual drive test data reflecting the actual operation of the vehicle during the test drive. This data is recorded and the recording is then processed by an electronics circuit which in turn provides actuating signals of a DC voltage level to a series of servos which are arranged in mechanical combination with the clutch, throttle and gear shift stick of the vehicle under test. As these various servos are actuated with an appropriate input signal, they perform the shifting from one gear to the next gear along with proper depression of the clutch and acceleration by means of the throttle.
