  • Patent number: 6488427
Abstract: An applicator for dispensing a product comprises an exterior top surface, an exterior sidewall, and a base. The applicator has a chamber which constitutes a reservoir for holding the product to be dispensed. The reservoir has top wall, a bottom wall and a side wall. The applicator has an orifice for dispensing product, and the orifice connects the top surface to the top wall. The chamber has a disk capable of traveling through the chamber forcing product through the orifice as it travels through the chamber. The disk has a product contact surface that contacts a major portion of the top surface when the travel of the disk is complete so that product remaining in the chamber is minimized.

  • Patent number: 6287969
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method of forming a superconductor, comprising the steps of: providing a substrate and exposing the substrate to a first atmosphere, including precursors to form a first epitaxial layer segment. The first layer segment is then exposed to a second atmosphere, including precursors to form a second epitaxial layer segment, and the second layer segment is exposed to a third atmosphere including precursors to form a third epitaxial layer segment. Each of the first and third layer segments are each formed from a superconductor material and the second layer segment is formed from a material different from the first and third layer segments and the first, second and third layer segments have a collective thickness, the third layer segment having an outer surface with a roughness which is less than that of a single layer of the superconductor material with a thickness equal to the collective thickness.

  • Patent number: 6280501
Abstract: A process for recovering a base metal from a material, the base metal being selected from cobalt, copper, nickel and zinc, the process comprising the steps of reacting the host material with a ferric ion species in a leach solution, at conditions sufficient to cause at least a portion of the base metal to be oxidized by the ferric ion species, thereby causing the ferric ion species to be converted to a ferrous ion species, and oxidizing the ferrous ion species with an oxidation mixture of SO2 and oxygen to form the ferric ion species for subsequent reaction with the material.

  • Patent number: 6232694
Abstract: This invention relates to improvements in electric power systems for aircraft and, more particularly, to such systems which provide both starter and generator functions. The present invention has particular applicability to starter generators for helicopters having a body with an end bell, a commutator head assembly and a fan cover assembly, and wherein the starter generator does not have an end bell that permits air to exhaust through said end bell. The starter generator of the present invention has a commutator head assembly having a frame with a top end and a base end, the top end being adapted to fit within the fan cover assembly and be retained therein by a suitable means, the commutator head assembly having with a plurality of slots that are designed to exhaust air flow passing over one or more brushes in the starter generator.
