  • Patent number: 8019504
Abstract: A method is provided for identifying events that impact aircraft availability. Operational data, maintenance data, supply data, and provisioning data are collected for a plurality of aircraft from a plurality of sources to form collected data. The collected data is processed to form processed data containing a plurality of events, wherein the processed data is in a form needed to perform an analysis on the aircraft availability for the plurality of aircraft. A set of metrics relating to the aircraft availability for the plurality of aircraft is calculated from the processed data to form a set of calculated metrics. A set of trends relating to the set of calculated metrics affecting availability of the plurality of aircraft is identified.

  • Patent number: 8019733
Abstract: A processor selects file system metadata. A processor identifies each unit of data in a file system. The processor determines if the unit of data contains file system metadata. The processor writes a unit of data of metadata to a diagnostic file system, provided it was determined that the unit of data contains file system metadata. The processor then determines if the unit of data contains user data. If the unit of data contains user data, the processor writes a sparse object to the diagnostic file.

  • Patent number: 8016236
Abstract: A method and apparatus for assembling an aircraft. A wing spar fitting is connected to a spar in a wing for the aircraft. A body frame fitting is connected to a frame in a body for the aircraft. The locations and orientations of the body frame fitting and the wing spar fitting allow for the body frame fitting to be attached to the wing spar fitting when the wing is positioned for attachment to the body of the aircraft. The wing is positioned with respect to the body of the aircraft for attachment to the body. The body frame fitting and the wing spar fitting are attached to each other with a set of fasteners after the body frame fitting is aligned to the wing spar fitting without penetrating any sealed areas in the wing, wherein the wing is attached to the body by a mechanical joint that is formed by the body frame fitting and the wing spar fitting.

  • Patent number: 8007620
Abstract: A translucent composite material that can be used in various airplane interior applications that allows sufficient light transmissivity while preferably meeting Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) flammability requirements for overhead materials in the cabin of a commercial aircraft. The material also meets FAA standards regarding vertical burn, smoke emissions tests, and toxic fume emissions tests. The composite material is formed by laminating long glass fibers and (PPSU) into a composite sheet under controlled heat and pressure. The composite sheet is then cut, bent or thermoformed to form the desired part. The parts formed are available for a wide variety of uses within the passenger cabin of a commercial aircraft. The long glass fibers may be unidirectional or weaved into a glass cloth like material. While preferably formed for airplane interior applications, these components may also be used in other aerospace or non-aerospace applications.

  • Patent number: 8010957
Abstract: A computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer usable program code for eliminating redundant read-modify-write code sequences in non-vectorizable code. Code is received comprising a sequence of operations. The sequence of operations includes a loop. Non-vectorizable operations are identified within the loop that modifies at least one sub-part of a storage location. The non-vectorizable operations are modified to include a single store operation for the number of sub-parts of the storage location.

  • Patent number: 8010615
Abstract: A computer implemented method, computer usable recordable-type medium having a computer usable program code, and a data processing system provide a custom dictionary associated with an instant messaging contact. A chat window within an instant messaging application with the instant messaging contact is initially opened. The chat window is associated with the instant messaging contact. The instant messaging application then identifies whether the instant messaging contact is listed in a contact list. If the instant messaging contact is listed in a contact list of the instant messaging application, a default language dictionary that is associated with the instant messaging contact is loaded. The default language dictionary is one of a plurality of language dictionaries for languages that can be implemented within the instant messaging application.

  • Patent number: 8010708
Abstract: A boot menu is provided for manual setting of serial port parameters. A serial console mode menu allows an operator to set serial port parameter values. After the user selects the serial port parameters, when the controller continues with the boot process, the serial port is initialized with the newly selected parameters. A mechanism is also provided for manual setting of serial port parameters through an administrative management window at the host. In addition, an adaptive baud rate negotiation mechanism using the Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (UART) registers in the serial port is provided. The adaptive baud rate negotiation is based on the return characters received from a break character from the serial console. The mechanism uses a look-up table for the baud rate versus the bit pattern that is received. The mechanism then sets the baud rate based on the look-up table values.

  • Patent number: 8006001
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for removal of instructions for context re-evaluation. The mechanism receives an external request to perform the instruction remove. In response to this external request, the mechanism next determines when the state of the system is stable for allowing the instruction remove. Then the mechanism creates a first event to remove a current data instruction in a DMA, if present, and merge it back onto the list of pending contexts from where it originated. The mechanism waits for feedback that the first event has completed. Then the mechanism creates a second event to remove a pending data instruction that was chosen to be next in the DMA, if present, and merge it back onto the list of pending contexts from where it originated. Finally the mechanism waits for feedback that the second event has completed.
