Abstract: A method and system automatically creates and operates a web application from a spreadsheet without the need for specialized programming. The web application includes a guided data entry process created from spreadsheet worksheets. The web application interfaces with a database application, so that model data may be retrieved for analysis. The web application implements the model as a calculator data defining the relationships between the model values. A rendering data defines the appearance of the model values in the web application. A instance data includes the model values for an instance of the web application. A calculation engine calculates model values. A layout engine creates display information from the calculator, rendering, and instance data set. The rendering data includes objects having display methods for creating display information in accordance with its object type. Object types include inputs, outputs, and user interface elements.

Abstract: A method of servicing a request for a document over a computer network includes independently caching portions of pages called blocks. Each block includes a reference to a data source and code that is adapted to access the data source and to format the data accessed from the data source. When a request for a page is received over a computer network, one or more of the plurality of blocks defined in the script of the requested document may be retrieved from a cache memory. Any block that is not found in the cache memory is dynamically generated and a copy thereof is stored in the cache memory. The requested page may then be assembled from the page blocks retrieved from the cache memory and/or the dynamically generated page blocks.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for controlling user access to secured data resources includes a step of inventorying data resources that are to be secured. Thereafter, a requirements data structure may be generated that includes one element mapped to each of the inventoried data resources, each element being configured to store a requirement value that is set according to an authorization level necessary to access the mapped data resource. For each user to have access to any of the inventoried data resources, a grant data structure may be defined that includes one element mapped to each of the plurality of data resources, each element being configured to store a grant value that is set according to an authorization granted to the user to access the mapped data resource. When a user request for access to at least one of the secured data resources is received, a step may be carried out to compare the grant and requirements data structures.

Abstract: A computer system and method configured to deliver content to a mobile device includes a first server configured to deliver an address of a content in a reference format responsive to a request for the content from the mobile device and a first proxy server configured to receive, from the mobile device, the address of the content in the reference format and a type of the mobile device. The proxy server is configured to fetch the requested content at the received address, to automatically convert the fetched content from the reference format to a format suitable to the type of mobile device and to deliver the converted content to the mobile device.

Abstract: An electronic controller for conducting trusted lightweight e-commerce transactions. A trusted transactional cache and the associated transactional protocol allow e-commerce transactions to be committed to a remote server extremely quickly and with little network overhead. The end-to-end transactions are completed is just a few seconds or less. The invention operates equally well on robust private networks as on unpredictable Internet or wireless networks. The transaction is automatically completed following a temporary communication failure with the central site or following a temporary local controller failure. The invention can advantageously be used in embedded Internet products such as fixed or mobile Internet kiosks, transactional terminals, and Internet Appliances.

Abstract: A method for automatically testing a website or a web application may include steps of examining the code of an opened Web page or Web application and detecting and categorizing user input fields in the examined code. A knowledge base of standard inputs that stores a plurality of categorized standard inputs may then be consulted. A standard input may then be selected from the knowledge base of standard inputs and applied to the detected input field. When the website or web application generates a message in response to the applied standard input, a knowledge base of standard errors that stores a plurality of standard errors may be consulted. The generated message may then be matched to one of the stored standard errors or a likelihood that the generated message is an error message may be assigned when the generated message does not match one of the stored standard errors.

Abstract: A computer implemented actual costing method for collecting and presenting an actual cost of performing a business activity includes the steps of carrying a first and/or a second step, the first step including collecting the actual cost of at least one job performed in furtherance of the business activity, the second step including collecting the actual cost of at least one item manufactured in furtherance of the business activity. A unique cost source identifier is created for each collected actual cost and the collected actual cost is stored therein. Each unique cost source identifier is then associated with its corresponding item or job within the business activity. A selected accounting costing method for actual cost collection and a selected accounting costing method for actual cost presentation based upon the stored cost source identifiers may then be implemented.

Abstract: A component for fabricating the electronic device comprises a substrate and a conductive film provided on the substrate, in which the adhesion of the conductive film to the substrate is not greater than 0.1 N/cm. The adhesion of the conductive film to the substrate is weak enough to enable the conductive film to be readily peeled from the substrate. This makes it possible to form a component on a substrate other than the substrate used during film formation, thereby greatly increasing the degree of product configuration freedom. If the adhesion of a lower conductive film on the substrate side is made to be not greater than 0.04 N/cm, it becomes very easy to peel the conductive film from the substrate.

The dielectric resonator oscillator includes a dielectric resonator, a drive circuit for applying a resonance voltage to the dielectric resonator, a switch for applying a voltage required for generating the resonance voltage to the drive circuit, a switch for applying a ground voltage for stopping generation of the resonance voltage to the drive circuit, and a capacitor connected to a power terminal side that supplies a voltage, as seen from the switch, for removing noise generated by the drive circuit. If these switches are made conductive exclusively, oscillation can be stopped immediately by turning on the switch. Since the capacitor is in a charge storage state at all times, regardless of ON/OFF of the switch, the oscillation operation can be started immediately when the switch is turned ON.

Abstract: A set top box (STB) includes a trusted transactional cache and associated transactional protocol and enables e-commerce transactions to be securely committed to a remote server extremely quickly and with little network overhead. The invention does away with the user concern of whether the transaction was successful. The STB operates equally well on robust private networks as on unpredictable Internet or wireless networks, and avoids upsetting users who would otherwise have to wait in front of a display screen for confirmation of completion of the transaction after a temporary communication failure with the central site. The method may advantageously be used to provide cost-effective micro-payments solutions. The STB may include a dual headed display capability in which data and video maybe be directed to separate displays. The STB may feature an embedded ticket printer, as well as an embedded barcode scanner.

A gaming machine includes a locked enclosure; a first computing device disposed within the locked enclosure, the first computing device being programmed to enable game play of the gaming machine; a second computing device disposed within the locked enclosure of the gaming machine, the second computing device being configured for network access, and an interface between the first and the second computing devices. The second computing device is configured to receive game software components over the network that are compatible with (e.g., executable by) the first computing device but not compatible with (e.g., not executable by) the second computing device and to transfer the received game software components to the first computing device over the interface.
