  • Patent number: 6625252
Abstract: A mobile medical image scanner and teleradiology system are incorporated into an ambulance or other vehicle to permit a patient to be diagnosed while en route to a treatment facility such as a trauma center. The system obtains medical image data while the patient is being transported in the vehicle and transmits the medical image data to a receiver at a location which is remote from the vehicle. At the remote location, the transmitted medical image data is displayed in a humanly discernable manner and interpreted by a qualified physician, who then communicates diagnostic information to the technicians in the vehicle and/or to the treating physicians at the treatment facility. By providing diagnostic information back to the treating physicians prior to the patient's arrival at the treatment facility, the patient can be routed directly to the operating room, or the intensive care unit as necessary, thereby saving valuable time.

  • Patent number: 6620374
Abstract: A system and method for inductively heating and then quench hardening a portion of a workpiece, such as a several threads of a screw or bolt are disclosed. The system includes a conveyor system having a rotary conveyor for separating, aligning, and transporting each of the workpieces in aligned succession through an induction heater positioned about the rotary conveyor to heat-treat at least a portion of each of the workpieces. A sensor determines whether a workpiece is heat-treated to a minimum temperature and causes an ejector to separate heat-treated workpieces that have reached the minimum temperature from heat-treated workpieces that have failed to reach the minimum temperature. The separated workpieces are then quenched in a tank & separately removed automatically.

  • Patent number: 6618605
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for MR perfusion acquisition using a notched RF saturation pulse. In acquiring such MR data, a volume of slice locations is selected in which MR data is to be acquired. Each given slice is prepared with a notched RF saturation pulse which has a stop-band between a pair of pass-bands. The stop-band is designed to not affect the spins in the next slice in which MR data is to be acquired thereby effectively increasing the TI and increasing SNR and contrast simultaneously. Since the notched saturation pulse saturates all the spins outside of the notched stop-band, the blood in the ventricular chamber is effectively saturated so that the resulting perfusion images have blood pool suppression. Additionally, the use of a 90° presaturation RF pulse provides a high level of immunity to the effects of arrhythmias or other variations in the patient's heart rate.

  • Patent number: 6612619
Abstract: A quick coupler retention clip is disclosed for preventing an inadvertent disconnection of a quick coupler. The clip device includes a unitary clip having a first and a second end. The first end of the clip is of annular configuration so that the body of the coupler extends through the annular first end for anchoring the first end of the clip relative to the body. The second end of the clip is a C-shaped configuration to removably engage a groove defined between a collar and the body of the coupler. A strap extends between the first and second ends of the clip for securing the first and second ends of the clip together. The disconnection of the body from the port of the quick coupler is permitted only when the C-shaped second end is removed from engagement with the groove so that inadvertent disconnection of the body from the port is prevented.

  • Patent number: 6603989
Abstract: A method and apparatus for acquiring MR images is disclosed. The technique allows rapid acquisition of T2 weighted MR images using gradient echo imaging, and also allows the acquisition of T1 weighted or spin density images, T2* or T2′ weighted images all from the same data set. The technique includes determining a nonlinear function of gradient echo time to offset magnetic field inhomogeneities and acquiring multiple sets of MR data from a series of read-out gradient pulses in a pulse sequence. Both 2-D and 3-D pulse sequence embodiments are disclosed. The MR data is then fit to an equation that includes the nonlinear function and the images are reconstructed that include T1 or spin density weighting, T2 weighting images, T2*, or T2′ weighting. The resulting images are naturally co-registered.

  • Patent number: 6597173
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to MR imaging and, more particularly, to a method and apparatus for reconstructing zoom MR images. An RF coil assembly having a number of detection elements is provided. The RF coil assembly is designed such that the number of detection elements that may be used to acquire imaging data may exceed the number of data acquisition channels of the MR system. Accordingly, the detection elements may be grouped into a number of sets wherein each set transmits acquired data to a specific data acquisition channel to acquire data of a larger region-of-interest (ROI) or, alternately, only one set of detection elements corresponding to a smaller ROI may be activated wherein each detection element of the set transmits data to a data acquisition channel. As a result, a zoom image may be reconstructed.
