  • Patent number: 6521859
Abstract: A system and method for preserving stored foods. The system and method utilizes an apparatus for generating ozone and other atoms and molecules resulting from the bombardment of a feed gas with electrons having, preferably, a first electrode positioned within a channel in a second electrode. The first electrode is a substantially sealed tube made of dielectric material, having at least one electron gun positioned proximate an end for firing electrons into the first electrode. In electrical communication with the electron gun is a rod, maintained in a tube also made of dielectric material, which acts to maintain a constant energy level through the length of the rod and thus the length of the electrode. Within the first electrode is an inert gas which, upon the firing of the electron gun, is formed into a plasma.

  • Publication number: 20030007142
Abstract: A light source produces laser beams that are subjected to frequency modulation whose frequency can be adequately set or varied. A light modulator modulates laser beams with respect to the center wavelength, so that the lower sideband is used as probe light input into one end of the measured optical fiber. A pulse modulator produces laser pulses based on laser beams as pump light, which is input into the other end of the measured optical fiber, along which correlation peaks emerge at different positions. The output light is extracted from the other end of the measured optical fiber and is supplied to a timing adjuster, which adjusts a transmission timing to allow transmission of light proximate to a measuring point in the measured optical fiber therethrough. Thus, it is possible to reliably measure characteristics of the measured optical fiber entirely over the relatively long distance with high spatial resolutions.

  • Patent number: 6493588
Abstract: An electro-nerve stimulator system includes a pulse generator for generating current pulses with a transcutaneous patch and percutaneous needle for delivering current pulses to selected stimulation sites. The stimulator is a small battery operated external device that allows adjustment of stimulation levels and interfaces, via a connector, to the trans-percutaneous cable. The transcutaneous electrode is attached to the skin distal from the desired stimulated nerve site. A percutaneous needle is inserted close to the internal nerve site. Stimulation current pulses are designed to flow between the transcutaneous electrode and the internal percutaneous needle. The field generated at the needle site causes the nerve to fire.

  • Publication number: 20020171276
Abstract: A synchronizing mechanism for correlated seat/backrest motion of an office chair is provided with a base carrier to be placed on a chair column; a seat carrier, which is pivotable about a transverse axis and, at its front end, articulated to the base carrier; and a backrest carrier, which is also pivotable about a transverse axis and articulated to the base carrier. It is coupled with the seat carrier such that a backward pivoting motion of the backrest induces a lowering motion of the rear end of the seat carrier. The joint between the base carrier and the seat carrier is a turning and sliding joint so that the lowering motion of the seat carrier is combined with a horizontal sliding motion.

  • Patent number: 6483208
Abstract: In an electric linear motor, the stator coils are arranged in a line, and the field they produce advances along that line driving the translator along with it. None of the known linear motors can provide all of very high speed, low force, long travel, high linearity and very low moving mass; the present invention proposes an answer in the form of a mechanism that applies motive, displacing force not primarily in the direction along with translator movement is desired but instead approximately at right angles to that direction, the translator being “squeezed” out like a cherry pip squeezed between finger and thumb.
