Abstract: A system for monitoring a vending machine is presented, the vending machine includes a controller and associated memory configured to store information associated with the condition of the vending machine. The vending machine also has a first short range transceiver configured to transmit the information associated with the condition of the vending machine, a first distance. A plurality of mobile devices each having a second short range transceiver and a first long range transceiver, the mobile devices configured to receive information associated with the condition of the vending machine and transmit it via the long range transceiver. A second long range transceiver is associated with a server coupled to the second long range transceiver.

Abstract: Facial recognition is used to allow access to platform-agnostic account information. A processing and verification device receives a request for a transaction requiring access to account information of a user. Responsive to the request, a new image of the user is generated, such as using an image sensor of a camera. The new image is used to query a database to determine whether an existing image stored in the database matches or substantially matches the new image. Responsive to a positive result of the query, the request is allowed by the processing and verification device granting the access to the account information. The access to the account information is then used to complete the transaction. The account information uses a global architecture such that it can be used with different hardware and software configurations of a connected system.

Abstract: A point-of-sale system includes: a check-out terminal having a cash drawer; and a video terminal coupled to a rotating base. In an attended check-out terminal mode the video terminal is configured to be rotated on the rotating base to a first position such that a display screen of the video terminal is approximately parallel with a front surface of the cash drawer, and in a self-service check-out terminal mode the video terminal is configured to be rotated on the rotating base to second position such that the display screen of the video terminal is approximately perpendicular to the first position.
