Patent number: 8534290Abstract: A hearing protection unit includes two sound damping cups for placing around a user's ears. A retainer device positions the cups and applies a compressive force on the cups. The retainer device includes a front band which extends between the front edge of each respective cup across the user's forehead, and a rear band which extends between the rear edge of each respective cup around the nape region of the user.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2006Date of Patent: September 17, 2013Assignee: 3M Svenska AktiebolagInventor: Elin Karrman

Patent number: 8243943Abstract: A hearing protector comprises a hearing hood (2), a microphone (7), a loudspeaker and an amplifier. The hearing hood (2) has passive noise damping. The microphone (7) is disposed exteriorly on the hearing protector, while the loudspeaker is disposed inside the hood. The amplifier amplifies and transmits the signals from the microphone (7) to the loudspeaker. The noise damping of the hearing hood (2) is broad band. The frequency range of the amplifier corresponds to the frequency range of human speech. The amplification of the amplifier is variable and the greatest amplification is such that the sum total of the sound levels that are caused, on the one hand, by ambient sound passing through the hood (2) and, on the other hand, by sound from the loudspeaker amounts to a maximum, predetermined value.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 2004Date of Patent: August 14, 2012Assignee: 3M Svenska AktiebolagInventors: Henrik Nordin, Sigvard Nilsson

Patent number: 8223994Abstract: A method of limiting the maximum permitted sound volume in an earphone, a headset or the like, includes the step that the size of the driving signal for driving the earphone is sensed. The driving signal has a voltage that is less than approx. 0.7 V. If the driving signal exceeds a certain level, one part of the driving signal is shunted past the earphone and another part of the driving signal is diverted. Either the voltage of the diverted part is increased and controls the shunt device by which the first part of the driving signal is shunted past the earphone, or it is supplied to a unit with a detector device and the shunt device. The unit is sensitive to work at voltages below approx. 0.7 V. An earphone or the like for the above-mentioned method comprises a shunt device and a detector device whose current source is the signal source of the earphone.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2007Date of Patent: July 17, 2012Assignee: 3M Svenska AktiebolagInventor: Roger Kihlberg

Patent number: 8189801Abstract: An ear cup which comprises an inner cup portion for the formation of a noise damping space and an outer cup portion for the formation of a space for accommodating electronics, electrical connections and/or a current source. The outer cup portion is fixable on the inner with the aid of a locking member which is insertable in a guide in the outer cup portion. The inner cup portion has a locking recess and the outer cup portion has an aperture. The locking member is placed in the locking recess and the aperture. The locking member has an outer shank and an inner shank. The outer shank is provided with a bulge which engages with a recess in the outer cup portion. The inner shank is provided with a locking portion which engages with the inner cup portion. The locking portion has projections which prevent withdrawal of the inner shank out of the aperture.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2006Date of Patent: May 29, 2012Assignee: 3M Svenska AktiebolagInventor: Henrik Heringslack

Patent number: 7908668Abstract: The disclosure relates to safety eyewear disposed in a safety helmet and including a transparent panel for positioning in front of the eyes of the wearer. At each side of the panel, arms are provided which, at their ends are pivotally connected, on the one hand to the panel and, on the other hand, to the helmet. The arms also each have an interjacent joint at a point between their respective ends. The disclosure also relates to a safety helmet provided with safety eyewear in accordance with the foregoing.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 2006Date of Patent: March 22, 2011Assignee: 3M Svenska AktiebolagInventor: Jan Folkesson
