  • Patent number: 9151884
Abstract: An illumination system, such as might be used for illuminating a projection system, includes at least a first source of incoherent light capable of generating light in a first wavelength range. The system includes at least one active chromophore layer, sandwiched by transparent materials into a multi-layer body. They active chromophore layer emits light in a second wavelength range, different from the first wavelength range, when illuminated by light in the first wavelength range. The multi-layer body has an extraction area and at least some of the light at the second wavelength is internally reflected within the body to the extraction area.

  • Patent number: 9150765
Abstract: Shaped ceramic articles can be obtained by screen printing the desired shapes from a dispersion of a precursor of the ceramic onto a receiving surface using a transfer assisted technique that applies a differential pressure, at least partially drying the screen printed shapes, and firing them to generate the shaped ceramic articles. Shaped abrasive particles made using lower viscosity sol gels that tended to flow or creep after the screen printing formation were found to have higher grinding performance over screen printed shaped abrasive particles made with higher viscosity sol gels.

  • Patent number: 9151463
Abstract: A light source combines colored light from different LED sources to provide white light output. Multiple LEDs emitting light at different peak wavelengths may be disposed on a flexible substrate, the LEDs being close to an aperture formed in the substrate. Multiple mirrors, including at least one dichroic mirror, are oriented to reflect light from the multiple LEDs into the aperture. The flexible substrate includes a dielectric layer having a cavity region and an adjacent neighboring region that is thicker than the cavity region. The aperture and the multiple LEDs are all disposed in the cavity region of the dielectric layer. An integrating rod may be coupled to the aperture to receive the reflected light from the multiple LEDs.

  • Publication number: 20150274483
Abstract: The disclosure generally relates to a looped pile film roll core used for winding a polymeric film, a method of winding film on the looped pile film roll core, and a roll of film that includes the looped pile film roll core. The disclosure describes an article and a process to reduce the core impressions created by the starting end of a web on the adjacent web layers next to the core. In one particular embodiment, the present disclosure can lead to a reduction in the amount and severity of such core impressions on a wound polymeric film, by reducing the amount of stress in adjacent layers of wound web.

  • Patent number: 9144671
Abstract: A transdermal adhesive patch assembly and method of using same. The assembly can include a backing, and an adhesive and a matrix coupled to the backing. The matrix can include an active ingredient. The assembly can further include a microneedle array in at least partially overlapping relationship with the matrix; and a carrier that couples the microneedle array to the matrix opposite the backing, wherein the carrier and the microneedle array form a skin treatment assembly that, along with the matrix, can be located on a flap. The method can include adhering at least a portion of the adhesive to skin to form an anchor; applying pressure adjacent the microneedle array to treat an area of the skin; moving the flap away from the skin; removing the skin treatment assembly to expose the matrix; and replacing the flap to position the matrix over the treated area of the skin.

  • Patent number: 9145253
Abstract: Improved dispensing devices (100) and methods are provided that include a hollow barrel (102) containing the composition to be dispensed along with a piston (120, 220, 320, 420) received in one end (104) of the barrel (102) for dispensing the composition from the opposite end (106) of the barrel (102). At least one tortuous groove (200, 202, 204, 226, 326, 426, 436) extends across the side of the piston (120, 220, 320, 420) and communicates with the exterior of the barrel (102). The groove (200, 202, 204, 226, 326, 426, 426, 436) allows both air and the composition to travel along the side of the piston (120, 220, 320, 420) as the piston advances into the barrel (102). By permitting passage of both air and the composition, the groove (200, 202, 204, 226, 326, 426, 436) eliminates air pockets in the composition while alleviating pressure in the barrel (102) as the piston (120, 220, 320, 420) advances.
