Abstract: The invention relates to build-up agents which comprise a condensation product among an aldehyde, a phenol compound and an aromatic carboxylic acid, hydroxy-substituted on the aromatic nucleus. The products are particularly effective in reducing or suppressing the build-up formation in the polymerization of vinyl chloride or vinyl acetate, other copolymerizable substances being optionally present. Further objects of the invention are compositions containing the above agents, their use as build-up agents, methods for their preparation and the products obtained therefrom, the polymerization processes carried out in reactors whose inner walls are coated with these agents and polymers obtained from these process.

Abstract: Cross-linked copolymers possessing high thickening and suspending properties obtainable by polymerization of monomeric systems comprising a) 10-97% of at least one unsaturated carboxylic acid, b) 0-80% of at least one alkyl ester of an unsaturated acid, c) 0.5-80% of an associative monomer, d) 0-20% of an unsaturated amide, e) 0.2-20% of a suitable cross-linking agent and f) 0-20% of an unsaturated sulfonic acid; processes for their preparation, which comprise polymerization by precipitation, suspension and solution polymerizations or emulsion polymerization; latexes comprising up to 50% or more of said copolymers; said cross-linked copolymers and said latexes whenever prepared by the above polymerization processes; their use as thickening agents of aqueous, or substantially aqueous systems; and the new cross-linking agents.

Abstract: The present invention relates to solid compositions of polymers or copolymers of unsaturated carboxylic acids partially or completely neutralized, a process for the preparation thereof and the use thereof as thickening agents.

Abstract: Thickened or gelled compositions comprising an organic liquid, a crosslinked copolymer of an acrylic acid, a vinyl ester of trialkylacetic acids with highly branched structure containing up to 10 carbon atoms, a neutralizing base and, optionally, water are disclosed together with a method for their preparation. These compositions have high stability and are viscoelastic and can be used, for example, in cosmetics, detergents, or as fuels for domestic use or for transportable stoves.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of crosslinked polymers and copolymers of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid of formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen or methyl.
