Abstract: A humidity altering device includes an impermeable housing confining a liquid absorbent element having a large capacity for holding a humectant liquid. The device is provided with at least one evaporation barrier which controls the rate of humectant liquid evaporation so as to maintain a predetermined level of relative humidity within a humidor for storage of various products, such as perishable foods and tobacco products, so as to maintain their freshness and desirability for extended periods of time.
