In some embodiments, a device for occluding epistaxis includes a first curvilinear wall, a second curvilinear wall, and a third curvilinear wall each disposed at a top portion of the device. The device has an x-axis, y-axis, and z-axis, and the top portion is relative to the y-axis. The device includes a fourth wall and a fifth wall each disposed at a bottom portion relative to the y-axis of the device. The fourth wall and the fifth wall independently are substantially straight or curvilinear. The device includes a first end including a front first end portion and a back first end portion. The first end is curvilinear corresponding to the first curvilinear wall, and the first end is disposed at an angle relative to the x-axis.

A telecommunications device includes a video teleconferencing system including a base unit and one or more cameras configured to capture user images for transmission through a telecommunications network. The system may include remote units and may be configured to transmit a wireless signal for transsponding by the remote units, through which determination of distance from the remote units to the base unit can be made. Based at least in part upon distance and/or position between the base unit and the remote units, the telecommunications device can include additional capabilities such as automatic pan/tilt, zoom, focusing, and depth-of-field for single or multiple speakers.

    Abstract: A portable device for monitoring a user's geographic location, substantially a time of the geographic location measurement, verification status of the user's identity is provided. The portable device includes, a biometric verification module (“BVM”) that verifies the user's identity and includes a scanner for capturing images of a relevant biometric area and compares the captured images with pre-defined and stored reference biometric characteristics, wherein after the comparison, the BVM indicates whether the user's identity is verified or not; and a location module that determines the portable device's location information and substantially the time of measurement; and wherein the information carrier is a memory card for storing biometric parameters, the geographic location, the substantial time of measurement of location, and the user identity flag, wherein such data is maintained in the information carrier even when the portable device is powered off.
