Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a controller for a radio communication system. The system comprises a plurality of location areas. The controller serves said location areas and mobile stations within said location areas. In accordance with the method a request for initiation of location area information update proceedings is received at the controller. The controller then verifies whether the mobile station is subjected to a simultaneous paging procedure. If a simultaneous paging procedure is detected, the location area information update proceedings are interrupted and an acknowledgement message is generated and transmitted, said message informing the mobile station that the location area information update proceedings are completed.

Abstract: A cooking appliance includes smooth cooking surface having at least one cooking zone, a base frame section, at least one gas burner assembly located between the smooth cooking surface and the base frame section, and a control unit. A wire filament coil, electrically interconnected to the control unit, is arranged adjacent to the gas burner assembly. The wire filament coil includes a plurality of distinct, independently controlled segments extending about a perimeter of the gas burner. When operated in a first mode, at least one segment of the wire filament coil is utilized as an ignition source for a gas flow directed from the gas burner assembly. When operated in a second mode, the gas flow is shut off and selected segments of the wire filament coil are activated to establish a low level heat setting for the cooking zone.

Abstract: In a water cutoff structure of a covered wire, a water cutoff portion of an upper side member of a water cutoff member is formed in a recessed shape which is a shape of a curved face along an outer shape of the covered wire. Further, a water cutoff portion of a lower side member is formed in a projected shape in correspondence with the water cutoff portion in the recessed shape and the projected shape is a shape of a curved face in a projected shape in correspondence with the shape of the curved face of the water cutoff portion in the recessed shape.

Abstract: A modular asynchronous contactor assembly includes a contactor for each phase or pole of an electrical device. The contactor assembly is applicable as both a switching device and an isolation or load protection device. As such, each contactor is constructed so that each includes multiple contact assemblies. Moreover, the contactors within a single contactor assembly or housing can be independently controlled so that the contacts of one contactor can be opened without opening the contacts of the other contactors of the contactor assembly.

Abstract: A concurrent refresh mode is realized by allowing a memory array to be refreshed by way of a refresh bank select signal, while concurrently enabling a memory access operation in another array. The refresh address management is greatly simplified by the insertion of row address counter integrated within each array. In the preferred embodiment, any combination of a plurality of the memory arrays is refreshed simultaneously while enabling a memory access operation. This concurrent mode also supports a multi-bank operation.

Abstract: A system for assembling a wrap-around type binder includes a riveting apparatus including a riveting station, for assembling a ring/shield/frame/hinge plate assembly to binder covers. The ring assemblies are moved to the riveting station along one path, and the binder or notebook covers are fed to the riveting station along another path. The riveting station includes locating and forming pins and at least one magnet for holding the hinge plates, and a carriage for holding rivets and for driving them through the covers and expanding the rivets on the forming pins to securely mount the hinge plates and associated rings, shields and frames to the binder covers.

Abstract: A mobile telephone which can easily reach a target person and obtain a plurality of phone numbers thereof is disclosed. Registered phone numbers related to registered names are retrievably stored in a phone directory memory. A radial number memory stores a plurality of radial phone numbers which have been dialed. By selecting one of the radial phone numbers, a registered phone number related to the selected radial phone number is sequentially displayed to be redialed.

Abstract: An information capturing technique captures information on a processor cycle that results in a high level interrupt, such as an SMI (System Management Interrupt). A memory controller is connected to at least one processor to control a memory in response to instructions from the at least one processor. An I/O controller is connected to the memory controller to control data flow to at least one device in response to instructions from the at least one processor. Lock down logic stores captured cycle information on a processor cycle that results in interrupt.

Abstract: Contents to be embedded in a page template or layouts can be dynamically changed without editing an HTML file or correcting a server program such as CGI. A page template is defined with a servlet that specifies a display area and a display attribute for controlling displays as parameters. When the Servlet is recognized at the web server side, a plurality of part beans that are stored by being related to display-area specifying information are specified. The information for linking image data for forming an object to be embedded in the display area and link-destination-URL information are set to the part beans as properties. Moreover, display-condition information such as schedule information or the like is related to the part beans.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is directed to reducing jitter of the position of an On Screen Display (OSD) associated with a display device. Multiple horizontal signals are produced in response to a vertical flyback signal and a horizontal flyback signal for the display device. Each of the multiple horizontal signals has a different phase. One of the multiple horizontal signals is selected such that its rising edge of the selected horizontal signal occurs at a separate time when compared to the rising edge of the vertical flyback signal. By ensuring that the rising edge of the selected horizontal signal is not coincident with the vertical flyback signal, jitter is minimized in the position of the OSD.

Abstract: An apparatus, program product and method utilize ordered messages in a clustered computer system to defer the execution of a merge protocol in a cluster group until all pending protocols in each partition of a group are handled, typically by ensuring either cancellation or completion of each pending protocol prior to execution of the merge protocol. From the perspective of each group member, the execution of the merge protocol is deferred by inhibiting processing of the merge request by such member until after processing of all earlier-received pending requests has been completed.

Abstract: The invention facilitates transmission of information across text communication channels in real time. A conversion component is provided that converts binary data into binary-as-text format, and parses converted binary data into packets for serial transmission over an SIP-connected messaging system via a text channel in the SIP-connected messaging system and/or an SIP information side-band channel.

Abstract: A system and method implemented by the system controls a process acting on a moving object by providing a plurality of “stop-action” reference images of a feature of a reference object. The plurality of reference images represent a range of periodic process results relating to the feature at various process sample times. While the process is acting on the moving object, a first image of a feature of the moving object at a first sample time is obtained, and the first image is compared to one or more of the plurality of reference images, which may represent various nominal and out of tolerance process conditions. From this comparison, the necessity for making a process adjustment of one or more process parameters of the process acting on the moving object is determined, and process control may be essentially effected in real time.

Abstract: A property tree user interface permits user assignment of values to metadata properties and user navigation of data, within a system that includes a data storage subsystem in which data items are organized and queried by way of properties. The property tree includes nodes that expose properties of data items. A user may interact with the property tree in order to effect an assignment of a property, in which case the value associated with the property in the data storage subsystem is modified. User input with respect to the property tree may also be indicative of a query of data storage, in which case a browsable view of data items responsive to the query is displayed. The property tree may also display nodes that represent folders within a hierarchical file system, nodes that represent properties with inherent hierarchy, and nodes that represent user-defined hierarchical properties.

Abstract: A system and process for highlighting the current speaker on an on-going basis in each frame of a low frame-rate video of an event having multiple people in attendance, such as a video teleconference, is presented. In general, this is accomplished by periodically identifying an attendee that is currently speaking at a rate substantially faster than the video frame rate, and for each frame of the video updating the frame to highlight the attendee currently speaking. More particularly, an audio/visual (A/V) source provides separate video, audio, and current speaker data streams to a client computing device. The client device then uses these data streams to render and display the video and to periodically update the frame being displayed to highlight the current speaker depicted therein.

Abstract: The present invention provides for a system for allocating resources in a multiprocessor environment. Blocking logic is configured to receive at least a request for resources from a device and to block repeat requests from the device. A first arbiter is coupled to the blocking logic and configured to receive a request for resources and a tag uniquely identifying the device, to perform a first arbitration, and to transmit the request and the tag to a first requester, based on the first arbitration. The first requestor is coupled to the first arbiter and configured to receive a request for resources and a tag from the first arbiter, to transmit the request and the tag to a second arbiter, and to receive a first grant signal from the second arbiter.

Abstract: A method and system for providing an out-of-game voice chat service over an online gaming environment is disclosed. A game console may provide a voice chat mode as part of a native application running on the game console. A user of the game console can establish a voice chat session and communicate with users of other game consoles connected to the online gaming environment by navigating menus as part of the game console's default system application.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and data structures for pluggable terminals are provided. Pluggable terminals are part of client and server TAPI communications systems. Pluggable terminal allow third parties to provide their own media processing devices and implement control methods for those devices. Methods for plugging in a pluggable terminal and conducting a communications session using the new pluggable terminal are described. A data structure for a pluggable terminal type has a wrapper around a media processing device control method. A data structure for registering a pluggable terminal has a terminal class name, a unique identifier, and a set of media types supported by the pluggable terminal. A data structure for a terminal base class has an interface for plugging in a pluggable terminal and another interface for a TAPI application component.

Abstract: In a wireless communication system including a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and at least one Node-B, a method and apparatus is used to selectively enable reception of at least one downlink (DL) enhanced uplink (EU) signaling channel established between the WTRU and the Node-B(s). During the operation of an enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH), the WTRU monitors at least one DL EU signaling channel established between the WTRU and the Node-B(s) only when it is necessary, based on the WTRU's knowledge of at least one established standard procedure. The WTRU coordinates and consolidates DL signaling channel reception requirements of a plurality of channel allocation and/or data transmission procedures carried out by the WTRU in accordance with the established standard procedure. The WTRU determines whether to enable reception of at least one specific DL signaling channel based on the consolidated DL signaling channel reception requirements.
