  • Patent number: 6709882
Abstract: A method for making a resistive heater for a planar lightwave circuit. The method includes the step of depositing a resistive layer on a top clad of a planar lightwave circuit. An interconnect layer is subsequently deposited over the resistive layer. The resistive layer can be tungsten and the interconnect layer can be aluminum. The interconnect layer is then etched to define a heater interconnect, wherein the heater interconnect is disposed over the resistive layer and has a first width. The heater interconnect is then masked, and the resistive layer is etched to define a resistive heater. The resistive heater is disposed beneath the heater interconnect and has a second width larger than the first width.

  • Patent number: 6709476
Abstract: A centrifugal air-oil separator for separating liquid particles from gases containing the liquid particles includes a substantially cylindrical air-oil separation chamber and a substantially conical liquid discharge chamber which are integrated with each other and are horizontally disposed, and an air-oil separation plate disposed between a gas supply port communicating with the air-oil separation chamber and a gas discharge port communicating with the liquid discharge chamber. A liquid discharge port is provided at a lowest portion between a largest-diameter portion of the liquid discharge chamber and the air-oil separation plate, and the liquid discharge port is covered thereabove with a reverse flow prevention wall. A strong swirl flow is generated in the air-oil separation chamber by the action of the air-oil separation plate to thereby enhance the liquid separation effect, and the reverse flow of liquid from the liquid discharge port to the liquid discharge chamber can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 6710369
Abstract: A liquid metal socket test fixture system and a method for the same are provided. The system has a circuit board top surface and a plurality of wells. A liquid metal compound forms balls in the wells. An IC package having a bottom surface with electrical contacts interfaces with the liquid metal compound in the wells. In some aspects of the system, the IC package has solid ball grid array (BGA) connectors attached to the bottom surface electrical contacts, interfacing with the liquid metal compound. Alternately, the liquid metal compound interfaces directly to the IC package bottom surface contacts. A gravity-tension frame overlies the circuit board top surface. The frame provides support in the horizontal plane so that the liquid metal balls remain aligned with the IC package electrical contacts. Typically, the liquid metal compound is a mixture of approximately 24% indium and 76% gallium.

  • Patent number: 6711187
Abstract: A rapidly oscillating laser light source is produced that exhibits extended pulse duration having a substantially uniform amplified output. A pulsed beam of laser light having a given wavelength, frequency, duration and intensity is produced such that the pulse shape is controlled. The pulsed beam is amplified using a fiber amplifier which exhibits inherent changes in amplifier gain at the frequencies of interest. The fiber amplifier is continuously pumped. A feedback signal is provided with the amplified pulse characteristics and is used to adjust the pulse shape of the pulsed beam of laser light before amplifying, such that the intensity is changed over the pulse duration to generate a substantially uniform amplified output during each pulse.

  • Patent number: 6709492
Abstract: A fuel deoxygenator includes a plurality of fuel plates defining fuel passages through a housing. A permeable membrane supported by a porous substrate is in contact with fuel flowing through the fuel passages. A vacuum in communication with the porous substrate creates a differential pressure between oxygen within the fuel and the porous membrane. The oxygen partial pressure differential causes oxygen dissolved within the fuel to migrate from the fuel through the permeable membrane away from the fuel. Fuel exiting the outlet includes a substantially reduced amount of dissolved oxygen.

  • Patent number: 6698955
Abstract: A control circuit generates two sorts of printing timing signals on the basis of the position of the printing mechanism module detected by a detector, and sends the generated signals to respective drive circuits. Herein, the printing mechanism module is configured of two printing element assemblies each of which includes a plurality of printing elements, and both of which are mechanically coupled. The two drive circuits taking charge of the two printing element assemblies send printing input signals to the respective printing elements which are to be driven according to the two sorts of printing timing signals received by the drive circuits. The relative positions between the print dots of the two printing element assemblies can be adjusted for each direction of printing on a sheet by changing the difference between the times of the two sorts of printing timing signals.

  • Patent number: 6700883
Abstract: A controllable mechanism for by-passing Layer 4 (L4) classification is based on the insertion into a set of Layer 3 (L3) rules in an L3 lookup tree set of Layer 4 (L4) Classification Required Flags. The state of the L4 classification flag is set by comparing the L4 classification rule to an IP (Internet Protocol) lookup rule. Routing is accomplished by selecting which rule to apply to the data packet and reading the state of the corresponding L4 Classification Required Flag. In response to a first state of the corresponding L4 Classification Required Flag, an L4 classification is performed followed by a routing of the data packet. In response to a second state of the corresponding L4 Classification Required Flag performing a routing of said data packet. In a second embodiment, the method inserts into a set of L3 rules in L3 lookup means a set L4 Classification Required Flags and Global Flags.
