Patents Assigned to A. Ahlstrom Corp.
  • Patent number: 5110289
Abstract: In the heat treatment of lime mud, the lime mud to be introduced to a lime reburning kiln is dried in a penumatic drier by flue gases from the lime reburning kiln in order to regenerate the lime contained in the mud. Prior to drying, the lime mud is thickened in a drying filter to a dry solids content of over 75%, preferably to approximately 80%. In this way, the lime reburning kiln can be made approximately 30% shorter than conventional kilns, and the apparatus is simpler than the conventional apparatus provided with a pneumatic drier.

  • Patent number: 4799937
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for gasifying carbonaceous material in a circulating fluidized bed reactor having a lower reactor chamber and an upper reactor chamber interconnected by a throttled throat portion. Carbonaceous material is supplied to a first fluidized bed gasification zone maintained in the lower chamber and is gasified there by a gasifying agent and recycled hot particles separated from the product gas. The effluent from the first gasification zone is passed upwardly through the throttled throat portion to a second fluidized bed gasification zone of the spouting-bed type maintained in the upper chamber to complete gasification of unconverted carbon remaining in the particles entrained in the gaseous effluent from the first zone at a higher temperature than that of the first zone.

  • Patent number: 4689158
Abstract: A decanting vessel for separation of liquid phases of different densities. The decanter vessel is provided with several conically-shaped separation levels disposed one on top of the other and provided with openings connecting the passages, alternately at the outer periphery and at the center of the separation levels. The liquid phases are thereby caused to flow from one passage to the next, consecutively, in a generally serpentine path. Pipes are disposed in the uppermost portion of each of the separation levels to carry the lighter phase to the top of the vessel.

  • Patent number: 4634521
Abstract: A screen for fibre pulp is provided with means for removal of light reject. The screening apparatus comprises a vertical cylindrical screen (2); and a rotor (3) which is concentrically disposed inside the screen and the substantially closed outer surface (9) of which together with the inner surface (10) of the screen defines a screening zone (11) for the pulp. A pipe (19) is provided inside the rotor (3) the upper end of the pipe being disposed adjacent to the inner surface (21) of the closed upper end (12) of the rotor (3).
