Patent number: 6906981Abstract: A method for seismic surveying is disclosed which includes towing a first seismic energy source and at least one seismic sensor system. A second seismic energy source is towed at a selected distance from the first source. The first seismic energy source and the second seismic energy source are actuated in a plurality of firing sequences. Each of the firing sequences includes firing of the first source, waiting a selected time firing the second source and recording signals generated by the seismic sensor system. The selected time between firing the first source and the second source is varied between successive ones of the firing sequences. The firing times of the first and second source are indexed so as to enable separate identification of seismic events originating from the first source and seismic events originating from the second source in detected seismic signals.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 2002Date of Patent: June 14, 2005Assignee: PGS Americas, Inc.Inventor: Svein Torleif Vaage

Patent number: 6902327Abstract: A ferrule is designed to be laser welded to a fiber optic cable. The ferrule has an inner annular wall and an outer cylindrical surface. Sets of cavities are spaced along the inner annular wall of the ferrule. Each cavity is connected to the outer surface of the ferrule by an open passage. The inner annular wall of the ferrule leads to a narrow channel for receiving a length of exposed core of the cable. The inner annular wall is sized to snugly receive an outer covering of the cable. When a fiber optic cable end is inserted into the ferrule and the exposed core extends through the channel, lasers are directed through the passages and cavities to melt the outer covering of the fiber. The outer covering expands into the cavities and secures the cable within the ferrule when the lasers are removed and the covering cools. The cavities provide an increased bonding surface area.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2003Date of Patent: June 7, 2005Assignee: Yazaki North America, Inc.Inventor: Brian E. Johnson

Patent number: 6903370Abstract: A substrate and a method for fabricating variable quality substrate materials are provided. The method comprises: selecting a first mask having a first mask pattern; projecting a laser beam through the first mask to anneal a first area of semiconductor substrate; creating a first condition in the first area of the semiconductor film; selecting a second mask having a second mask pattern; projecting the laser beam through the second mask to anneal a second area of the semiconductor film; and, creating a second condition in the second area of the semiconductor film, different than the first condition. More specifically, when the substrate material is silicon, the first and second conditions concern the creation of crystalline material with a quantitative measure of lattice mismatch between adjacent crystal domains. For example, the lattice mismatch between adjacent crystal domains can be measured as a number of high-angle grain boundaries per area.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 2003Date of Patent: June 7, 2005Assignee: Sharp Laboratories of America, Inc.Inventors: Apostolos Voutsas, Yasuhiro Mitiani, Mark A. Patent number: 6903914Abstract: A DC-DC converter has an output bus coupled to power a load. A voltage transient compensation circuit has a first switch between a voltage input bus and the output bus, and a second switch between the output bus and a flyback transformer coupled to a reference voltage terminal. When the voltage on the output bus drops below a first threshold, the first switch couples and thereby transfers energy from the voltage input bus to the voltage output bus and the load. When the voltage on the output bus exceeds a second threshold, the second switch is closed, transferring energy from the output bus to an input winding of the flyback transformer. When the voltage on the output bus drops back in a range between the two thresholds, the second switch is opened, and the flyback transformer transfers stored energy back to the voltage input bus.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2003Date of Patent: June 7, 2005Assignee: Intersil Americas, Inc.Inventor: Zaki Moussaoui

Patent number: 6902109Abstract: Generally described, under on aspect of the invention, a single unique delivery notice is left at the particular location. However, just before it is left, this notice is electronically “linked” to the parcel(s) which were undeliverable. This can be done by a handheld portable data acquisition device which includes a conventional scanning means, allowing information to be scanned from the delivery notice as well as labels on the parcels, and stored on the handheld portable data acquisition device. If ten parcels were undeliverable, only one delivery notice is left behind but is electronically “linked” to all ten packages. The intended recipient can then contact the delivery service via the internet (or other suitable network) or by phone, by using information provided on the delivery notice. By providing the delivery service with unique information from the delivery notice, the intended recipient can get valuable information regarding the undelivered parcels.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2003Date of Patent: June 7, 2005Assignee: United Parcel Service of America, Inc.Inventors: Craig Barta, Matt Miller, Daniel Garcia, Scott Aubuchon

Patent number: 6903275Abstract: A mounting device has a lock component attached to a wire harness shield and a bracket component for attachment to an engine part. The bracket component has two spaced, upright parallel arms defining an opening between them. The arms have free ends extending toward each other and separated by a gap. The lock component has a box-like shape with spaced sides. A deflectable section is formed in a first side. A stem extends from the deflectable section toward a second side of the lock component and through a slot in the second side. A push element is formed on an end of the stem extending from the slot. Latches or ledges are formed on ramp-shaped protrusions formed on the deflectable section on each side of the stem. When the lock component receives the parallel arms of the bracket component, the free ends of the arms act on the protrusions to force the deflectable section outward until the ledges snap beneath the free ends of the arms.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2004Date of Patent: June 7, 2005Assignee: Yazaki North America, Inc.Inventor: James Thomas Jetton
