  • Patent number: 8186978
Abstract: A pump includes a housing with a pumping chamber, first and second check valves, and an inlet and an outlet in fluid communication with the pumping chamber through the check valves. The housing also includes a linear actuator with a pumping element located in the pumping chamber wherein actuation of the linear actuator induces the pumping element to move between the first and second check valves between a first position wherein the pump element moves toward the first check valve and generates a positive pressure in the pumping chamber that maintains the first check valve closed and opens the second check valve to allow fluid to flow to the outlet, and a second position wherein the pumping element moves away from the first check valve and reduces the pressure in the pumping chamber to allow the first check valve to open and draw in fluid from the inlet.

  • Patent number: 8186223
Abstract: A structural integrity monitoring system includes a structure, at least two vibration monitoring devices mounted to the structure. Each of the at least two vibration monitoring devices outputs a vibration response signal. The structural integrity monitoring system also includes a controller operatively connected to each of the at least two vibration monitoring devices. The controller is configured to calculate a predicted vibration response based upon a vibration mode shape and the vibration response signal. The controller then compares the predicted vibration response against a measured vibration response to detect changes in the structure.

  • Patent number: 8186232
Abstract: A displacement, strain, and/or force sensor assembly (10, 110) has a mounting structure (12) with an anisotropic stiffness to facilitate the measurement of displacements, strains, and/or forces along the X-axis, while minimizing errors due to undesired displacements, strains, and/or forces along the Y- and Z-axes, and rotations about the X-, Y-, and Z-axes. A pedestal (30, 130) configured to respond to axial displacements along the X-axis is centrally disposed on the X-axis of the mounting structure (12), and a displacement or strain sensor (38) is coupled to the pedestal (30) to provide a measure of the displacements, strains, and/or forces. Contact pads (14, 114) are formed on opposite ends of the X-axis of the mounting structure, to enable the displacement and/or strain sensor assembly to be secured to an application structure.
