Abstract: A method of socket design and fabrication for Below-the-Knee (BK) amputees that utilizes manual measurements. This method, known as BK by Measurement, utilizes a manual measurement procedure where predetermined points are identified and measurements are taken of a patient's residual limb. These measurements are recorded and thereafter entered into a software package enabling customization by the fabrication facility. Prosthetic components fabricated in accordance with the present invention provide a custom fit, while not relying on more expensive digital imaging technology. The invention also provides a method and associated system for recording and retrieving fabrication and/or fitting data associated with a prosthetic component for use with a particular patient, which can include affixing to the prosthetic component a strip debossed with indicia unique to the particular patient or prosthetic component.

Abstract: An illuminated sign includes a plurality of sections. Each section includes a mesh of conductors having illuminating pixels located at conductor intersections. The mesh is surrounded by a frame connected to the frame of another section. Once frame sections of the display are unfolded, the display can be supported by a structure attached to a car or other vehicle. A support structure for an illuminated display includes a base which is placed on the ground and over which the tire of a vehicle (e.g., a police car) is parked. A column extends from the base, and a display can be attached to the top of that extending column. The support structure can take the form of a collapsible stand having a trunk which is pivotally attached to a base and which contains a telescoping section.

Abstract: An apparatus and method provide for display and cable management includes a base and a display device. The display device removably attaches to the base. When the display device is attached to the base, an aperture is created or reduced in size. The aperture allows a smaller first portion of a cable to pass through, but prevents a larger second portion of the cable from passing through. When the cable is drawn through the aperture and released, the weight of the cable retracts it through the aperture. The display device and base may include features that cooperate to resist detaching the display device when the cable is drawn through the aperture. The display device may include a graphic insert. The base may be shaped to sit on a horizontal surface and present the display device for viewing by a person standing or sitting nearby.
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for reducing socket shadow in an area of low luminance, the apparatus comprising a luminaire casing, at least two linearly adjacent tandem lamps disposed in the luminaire casing, the at least two lamps each capable of emitting a light output, a region of diminished radiant exitance disposed between adjacent ends of the at least two linearly adjacent lamps, the region of diminished radiant exitance emitting a lower light output than the light output emitted from the at least two lamps and creating the area of low luminance, and a reflector disposed with the luminaire casing, the reflector being disposed proximate the at least two lamps and positioned with respect to the at least two lamps to redirect the light output emitted from the at least two lamps to the area of low luminance.
Abstract: Electronic devices having complementary dual displays are presented, the electronic devices including: a first display, wherein the first display is a low resolution, high frame rate display; a first display controller for outputting an internal video signal to the first display; a second display, wherein the second display is a high resolution, low frame rate display; and a second display controller for outputting the internal video signal to the second display. In some embodiments, the devices further include: a number of user input interfaces for receiving a user input, wherein the number of user input interfaces are configured to control the second display; and a user input controller for generating a control signal based on the user input, the user input controller in electronic communication with the number of user input interfaces and a processing unit of the electronic device.
Abstract: Methods for controlling complementary dual displays for use with an electronic device are presented including: sending a video signal to a first display, wherein the first display is a refresh-based, high frame rate display; displaying the video signal on the first display; and printing a frame of the video signal to a second display, wherein the second display is a bistable, low frame rate display, the printing including, loading a portion of a current frame of the video signal into a frame buffer, and displaying the current frame of the video signal to a second display, such that a bistable static image is displayed on the second display.

Abstract: An immediate postoperative prosthesis including: a base adapted to receive a distal prosthetic component, the base comprising a substantially circular pan having a raised wall extending proximally about its periphery; a plurality of flexible straps mounted to and extending proximally from the interior face of the raised wall of the circular pan, the flexible straps adapted to interface with a postoperative residual limb; and wrap materials wrapped around and substantially solidified about the flexible straps. The invention also includes a process for postoperative fitting of a prosthetic component to a residual limb of a prosthetic recipient.
Abstract: An LED light string employs a plurality of electrical components defined by LEDs and sockets wired in block series-parallel, where the one or more series blocks, each driven at the same input voltage as the source voltage (110 VAC or 220 VAC), are coupled in parallel. The LED light string interfaces to the source voltage using a common household plug; it may also include a corresponding common, household socket, coupled in electrical parallel, to enable multiple light strings to be connected to each other from end to end. In order to directly drive a network of diodes without current-limiting circuitry, the voltage of each series block of diodes must be matched to the input source voltage. This voltage matching requirement for direct AC drive places fundamental restrictions on the number of diodes on each diode series block, depending on the types of diodes used. For the voltage to be “matched,” it is possible to employ LED assemblies of different resistance values; e.g.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for knee arthroplasty utilize components including an alignment device, a single medially or laterally located guidance device, and a cutting device for use in preparing the bones of a knee joint to receive knee arthroplasty implants. The alignment device is used to locate and orient the guidance device adjacent the medial or lateral side of a long bone of a knee joint. The cutting device is engaged with the guidance device and plunged across the end of the long bone to create a resected surface with respect to which a knee arthroplasty implant will be fixed. In one embodiment, the cutting tool guidance device extends less than about half way across the end of a long bone of a knee joint.
