  • Patent number: 4665874
Abstract: An oxygen concentration sensing device and an air/fuel ratio control system for an internal combustion engine which include a pair of solid electrolyte members having oxygen ion permeability which are arranged to face each other to form a restricted region between them. One of the solid electrolyte members is operative as an oxygen pump element when a pump current is supplied across the electrodes thereof. The sensing device is provided with a current supply part including a limit command circuit which generates a current stop command signal when the magnitude of the pump current exceeds a reference limit level. With the current stop command signal, the supply of the pump current is stopped so as to prevent an overcurrent to the oxygen pump element. The air/fuel ratio control system includes an air/fuel ratio detection part and an air/fuel ratio control part operated by an air/fuel ratio detection signal.

  • Patent number: 4666015
Abstract: A front and rear wheel drive vehicle having straddle-type seating. A power train is located beneath the seat and between the footpegs of the vehicle. The engine employs parallel output shafts located on either side of the crankshaft to drive power transmission means to the front and rear axles. A speed change mechanism is contained within the engine case along with the output shafts and includes a first transmission shaft between the crankshaft and one of the output shafts. In one embodiment, the cylinder block of the engine is illustrated as being inclined toward the speed change transmission such that the cylinder block, cylinder head and head cover do not extend laterally outwardly beyond the engine case. To employ both output shafts, sprockets are arranged on each shaft with a coupling chain. The orientation of the output shafts provides for a narrower engine profile.

  • Patent number: 4665883
Abstract: An air/fuel ratio control system for an internal combustion engine provides a mixture leaner than a predetermined reference value when a detected engine load is in a light load range. In order to produce a required engine power during a transitional period, the system detects the speed of variation of an operating parameter used for the calculation of air/fuel ratio and controls the air/fuel ratio toward the reference level even though the magnitude of the detected engine load is in the light load range. Preferably, an EGR rate is also made smaller upon occurrence of a rapid change of the operating parameter so as to prevent the power down of the engine during the transitional period.
