Abstract: A device and method are disclosed for use in sealing a toggle-operated apparatus mounted upon a panel. The actuator of the apparatus initially is in an operating position extending along a given axial direction and is movable through angular displacement away from that orientation into another operating position, by an operating force applied in a transverse direction. A boot member of the device is constructed of a resiliently flexible elastomeric material and includes an apical section for placement over the actuator upon sealing the apparatus, and an intermediate section configured and dimensioned to facilitate angular displacement of the apical section, along with angular displacement of the actuator to operate the apparatus, while reducing any resulting resilient biasing force tending to return the apical section toward orientation in the given axial direction to less than any transversely directed force capable of moving the actuator out of the another operating position.

Abstract: A sealing device and method are disclosed for use in connection with a switch mounted upon a panel by a panel nut engaged with a threaded bushing projecting from the panel. A boot member of a resiliently flexible elastomeric material is placed over the switch and is secured by a mounting nut to the threaded bushing to establish a seal. An annular bearing member is interposed between the terminal end of the threaded bushing and a juxtaposed portion of the boot member so as to protect the juxtaposed portion from damage that might otherwise occur as a result of any direct contact between the terminal end of the threaded bushing and the juxtaposed portion of the boot member.
Abstract: An elastomeric protective cover for use with an electrical switch of the type including a movable actuator, such as a rocker switch. A housing region of the protective cover defines an interior cavity for sealing and receiving a portion of the movable actuator of the switch. An interior surface of the cavity includes a projection such as a reinforcing rib which is positionable above the movable actuator. The projection coacts with the surface of the actuator upon application of tactile pressure near the engaging means which deforms the cover. The cover which is made from a flexibly resilient material returns to its original shape upon removal of the tactile pressure. The cover includes a flange for mounting the cover to the outside of a panel or other surface.
