Abstract: Described herein is a method for altering the characteristics of a membrane comprising a dielectric material. The method comprises heating the membrane and applying an electric field in a direction out of the plane of the membrane to at least a portion of the dielectric material. At least a portion of the dielectric material becomes aligned with the applied electric field. In some embodiments, the membrane is piezoelectric and application of an electric signal to the membrane causes out of plane movement of the membrane. Also disclosed are membranes and systems and apparatuses comprising such membranes.

Abstract: An inverter energy system supplies power to a site. The inverter energy system comprises a number of solar strings, each solar string including a solar panel(s) as a renewable energy source and an inverter. The inverter energy system is connected to a mains power supply (grid) and to a site load (sub circuits). The forward or reverse power flow into or out of the mains power supply is monitored at a monitoring point at the site. A rate limit is set for power flow into and/or or out of the mains power supply. The supply of power from the inverter energy system is controlled so that the power flow into or out of the mains power supply is within the set rate limit.
Abstract: A solar heat collecting device of the flat panel type, a process for its manufacture and parts thereof, made of extruded profiles in particular of aluminum or aluminum alloys. The device comprises a casing accommodating a heat collector assembly comprising a plurality of elongate extruded heat collector bodies, side by side, each having a tube co-axial with its axis of extrusion, flanked on each of its opposite sides integrally by an extruded web and further comprising a manifold at each end to which the respective tube ends are sealingly and communicatingly brazed. The edges of the adjoining webs of adjoining elongate bodies overlap slightly but are movable free of mechanical constraint or mutual attachment in relation to one another. Together the elongate bodies present the incoming solar radiation with a substantially plane uninterrupted area for absorption.
Abstract: An improved method for the removal of non-targeted components from a non-targeted component containing gas stream, the method includes the steps of: (i) contacting the non-targeted component containing gas stream with a fluid solvent stream; (ii) passing the product of step i) through a co-current phase separation step to produce both a non-targeted component containing solvent stream and a partially purified gas stream; (iii) passing the partially purified gas stream product of step ii) through a mass transfer step to produce a wet gas product; and (iv) passing the wet gas product of step iii) through a final co-current phase separation step to produce a purified gas stream, wherein the method is performed in a subsea location.
Abstract: The present invention relates to Euphorbia interspecific hybrid plants and methods for making the same. In particular, the invention relates to developing diploid, triploid and tetraploid interspecific hybrid plants derived from crosses between Euphorbia pulcherrima and F1 hybrids of Euphorbia pulcherrimaĆEuphorbia cornastra. In addition to providing the diploid, triploid and tetraploid interspecific hybrid plants and plant parts, the invention provides methods for making triploid interspecific hybrid plants with non-functional small cyathia and methods for making tetraploid interspecific hybrid plants with non-functional small cyathia and red bracts.
Abstract: An innovation management system, which includes a database of networked members, each of the networked members being associated with a pre-defined user profile, a user interface operable to receive inputs from a member and to display selected outputs to a member, a campaigns module onto which campaigns can be defined, a campaign being defined as a call to networked members to submit ideas for a particular context defined by the campaign, and an ideas module onto which ideas can be loaded, the ideas selectively being associated with a pre-defined campaign.
Abstract: A method for tracking a target located within a body, whilst scanning the body using X-ray projections, the method including the steps of: (a) providing a first prior image of the body and target indicating their relative position; (b) iteratively performing, for a series of time intervals, the steps of: (i) acquiring a few spatially distributed x-ray projections of the target area; (ii) determining one of a series of motion phases for each x-ray projection; (iii) performing an iterative reconstruction of the image for each of the motion phases; and (iv) outputting a resultant image for a current time interval.

Abstract: An electrode plate, method for manufacturing an electrode plate, and method of testing an electrode plate enable efficient production of robust flowing electrolyte batteries. The method of testing an electrode plate includes forming a frangible portion in the electrode plate; providing a seal around a periphery of the electrode plate, wherein the periphery extends across the frangible portion; applying a gas adjacent a surface on a first side of the electrode plate; and detecting whether there is a presence of the gas adjacent a surface on a second side of the electrode plate, if the electrode plate passes testing, the frangible portion is removed from the electrode plate to define a cut-away region. The electrode plate is then positioned in a battery cell stack including a plurality of other electrode plates. A manifold is then attached to the cell stack adjacent the cut-away region of the electrode plate.
