Abstract: A plant tray having a bottom and a sidewall. The bottom has at least one prominence rising from the inner surface of the bottom. The at least two prominences have at least one elevated drainage opening that is elevated above the inner surface of the bottom. A planting is made with at least one plant that is grown in soil in the plant tray and has air pruned roots at the at least one elevated drainage opening. The medium, such as soil, is watered to allow water to initially reside in the inner surface of the bottom to a level limited by the at least one elevated drainage opening.
