  • Patent number: 6503016
Abstract: A device for applying a fluid, notably a writing pen or cosmetic pencil, includes a tubular shaft, a fluid container that is positioned therein, a tip, and a conducting system for the fluid. The container ensures constant pressure equalization with the atmosphere by having its front and rear ends each being fluidically connected to the atmosphere. At the rear end of the container a ventilation opening is positioned. The ventilation opening opens into the container interior containing the fluid and is sealed by a semi-permeable membrane.

  • Patent number: 6461067
Abstract: A wood-encased pencil has raised structures formed of a synthetic material. The raised structures project above the surface at which the pencil is held and the structures form handling or gripping surfaces to increase the gripability of the pencil. The raised structures are formed by applying to the pencil an initially flowable plastic composition that later solidifies to form the raised structures. The plastic composition has, as a principal constituent, an aqueous polymer dispersion that hardens to become water-resistant.

  • Patent number: 6316526
Abstract: A simplified method for producing a lead for color pencils, cosmetic pencils and colored chalk with good down stroke behavior involves mixing powdered or granular base materials containing a thermolabile, polymeric binding agent, inorganic filler materials and a coloring agent with water and then extruding the mixed materials to form raw leads, which extruded material is subsequently heat treated at the binding agent decomposition temperature for a time sufficient to partially decompose the binding agent. Enough water is mixed with the base material to achieve a lead mass of approximately 5 parts by weight of base material and 1 part by weight of water.

  • Patent number: 6293720
Abstract: A pencil having an axially-movable core, particularly a soft-core pencil, for example a cosmetic pencil. The pencil has a sleeve-shaped pencil body with a core opening on the side of the tip, a core-driving part that holds the core and is seated to be axially movable in the pencil body, and a rotating sleeve that is disposed coaxially to the core and the pencil body is seated to be rotatably and axially fixed and cooperates directly or indirectly with the core-driving part in the manner of a spindle gear. At least one longitudinal section of the rotating sleeve that is remote from the tip is surrounded by the pencil body. Also, the circumferential wall of the pencil body that surrounds the rotating sleeve has at least one actuation window, and the rear end of the core is inserted so as to be rotatably and axially fixed into a front section of the core-driving part that is embodied as a core-retaining part having a tube-section shape.

  • Patent number: 6149331
Abstract: A pencil which has a tip and which dispenses a soft mass in use includes a sheath having front and back ends; a push rod positioned coxially within the sheath, having a sheath-side end, and being secured by its sheath-side end to the back end of the sheath in an axial direction; an elongate soft mass insert position coxially with the sheath; a front part which is a sleeve that envelopes the soft mass insert over at least a portion of its length, which is positioned coxially with the sheath and accommodated at least in part within the sheath, and which operates jointly with the sheath in the manner of a helical gear so that the fromt part retracts into the sheath by turning the front part relative to the sheath; and a soft mass insert holder which is connected to the front part so that it is engaged in the turning moment of the front part, which holds the elongate soft mass insert by one end thereof, which is rotatably secured to the push rod, and which is immovably secured to the push rod in the axial directi

  • Patent number: 5746778
Abstract: A wood stain which is water-based, which is suitable for staining wood, and which is comprised of water; at least one dye selected from the group consisting of azo, diazo and triarylmethane dyes; and a stabilizing agent which is effective to reduce free iron ion concentration in the stain when in contact with an autoclave composed of non-rust resistant steel during the staining process. The stabilizing agent includes at least one buffer effective to maintain the pH of the wood stain at greater than 7.0. Alternatively or additionally, the stabilizing agent includes at least one complexing agent which forms a complex with iron ions.
