  • Patent number: 4561811
Abstract: A lever is mounted about an oscillation axis for limited oscillation relative to a first component. A linear tension spring latching member is mounted for rotation on that lever about an axis eccentric to the oscillation axis, the latching member being mounted for frictionally retarded rotation. In the joined condition of second and first components, a latching pin projects from the second component in parallel spaced relation to the oscillation axis and the latching member axis. The tension spring latching member includes a latching hook at its distal end for engagement with the latching pin so that in the latched condition in the components, the spring latching member is tensioned between the latching pin and the eccentric axis.

  • Patent number: 4299294
Abstract: The tool includes an elongated body, rectangular in cross-section and having a switch housing mounted on one side face, to enable the mounting of an array of such tools in close side-by-side relation. A hydraulic motor, rotary drive spindle, and extensible quill are mounted relative to the housing about a common rotary and extension axis. The drive spindle has an external spline at its rear end, for engagement with an internally splined drive coupling which is secured to the motor drive shaft by means of a special key arrangement to prevent axial movement of the drive coupling. The quill is extended by a fluid operated cylinder-piston structure; and the front end of the drive shaft is supported within the front end of the quill by means of a uniquely mounted bearing. The bearing is mounted at the squared front end of the quill for precise axial and squared alignment; and is also confined between the spindle drive shaft and spindle end for precise axial and squared alignment relative to the spindle.

  • Patent number: 4225273
Abstract: A hollow drive spindle is rotatably mounted on a base and carries a self-opening threading die; and the spindle is driven by a suitable electric drive motor. An air operated collet chuck is mounted on a carriage, for reciprocating the chuck in longitudinal alignment with the threading die. The apparatus is semi-automatic in operation including an electric control circuit and actuator mechanisms operated in response to movement of the carriage. When the carriage reaches its rear limit position the chuck is opened to release the rod and the threading die is closed. When a rod is inserted in the chuck at the beginning of a cycle, it engages a stop arm so that further forward force on a rod also moves the carriage toward the die. With initial forward movement of the carriage, the chuck is closed on the rod and the stop arm is moved out of interference position.

  • Patent number: 4050835
Abstract: Apparatus for heavy duty tapping operations includes a compact, lightweight, hydraulic tool unit and a remote hydraulic power unit, with the entire apparatus being designed for portability. The tool unit includes an elongated housing having a high torque, low speed hydraulic motor with internal reduction gearing, for directly driving a spindle supported in the housing for rotation and longitudinal movement. The spindle includes a lead screw coacting with a lead nut mounted at the spindle end of the housing. The spindle is directly driven by the motor drive shaft through a spline drive coupling; and the spindle is fully supported by the lead nut and drive coupling. Reversing and stop control devices control the tapping and retracting limits of movement of the spindle; and the design provides for minimum damage to the tool unit in the event of failure of the reversing or stop control devices.
