  • Patent number: 4382373
Abstract: An apparatus for calibration of tubular articles, especially cylinder linings for internal combustion engines, manufactured through isostatic compression of pulverulent metallic materials, comprises piston means for effecting an axial displacement between the tubular article and a mandrel which it surrounds during the calibration. Preferably, the tubular article is first subjected to a rather modest radial inwardly directed pressure which is increased after an axial relative movement between the mandrel and the tubular article has taken place.

  • Patent number: 4370880
Abstract: An apparatus for bending a substantially planar, plastically deformable sheet-metal blank or plate into a shell of cylindrical curvature comprises two normally provided spaced apart die bars mounted on a die bed plate and a punch edge provided on a punch member, the punch edge being arranged, upon stepwise advancement of the plate, to press said plate down between the two spaced apart die bars. For the purpose of bending respective end parts of the plate, which is effected by so-called eccentric bending, the apparatus includes at least one additional die bar which is located at a greater distance from the end in question of the plate and at a higher level than that one of the two normally provided die bars located furthest from the end of the plate, and functionally replaces the one normally provided die bar. Preferably the apparatus includes a further die bar located outside each of the two normally provided die bars.

  • Patent number: 4149399
Abstract: In a method of forming tubes or pipes from a flat blank of a plastically deformable material, three spaced apart portions of the blank are first bent to the wanted curvature of the finished tube or pipe, so that two smaller unbent portions are obtained between the curved portions. Then, the blank is closed to essentially tubular form by means of forces acting on the curved portions, so that the principal deformation in connection with the closing is obtained in the unbent portions located between the curved portions.

  • Patent number: 4091938
Abstract: A machine for processing large workpieces, particularly a hydraulic press for working on large metal sheets, comprises external equipment for rigidly supporting and guiding the workpiece. The handling equipment is provided with means which permit the workpiece, together with part of the handling equipment, to carry out movements induced by the reactional forces generated in the workpiece by the tools of the machine. Those forces are held within predetermined limits, whereby the handling equipment is protected against damage but still capable accurately to position the workpiece relative to the tools before each processing step carried out by the tools.

  • Patent number: 4060359
Abstract: An isostatic press comprises a pressure vessel defined by a tubular jacket and by two end plugs. The jacket is, in the direction of its longitudinal axis, displaceble between two positions. The jacket surrounds a third plug centrally located between the two positions of the jacket so that, when the jacket is in one of its end positions, the central plug closes one end of the jacket, and vice versa. The two jacket positions alternatingly serve as pressing and charging positions so as to permit recharging of the press at one position simultaneously with carrying out a pressing operation at the other position. This arrangement approximately doubles the productivity of the press.

  • Patent number: 4056347
Abstract: An apparatus for isostatic compression of pulverulent materials comprises a pressure vessel housing two liquids which by a flexible diaphragm are held out of mutual contact. One liquid flows through a pumping circuit and constitutes a primary pressurization agent the pressure of which is, via the diaphragm, transferred to the other liquid surrounding a basket enclosing a soft walled container for the material to be compacted. According to the invention the basket is deformable so that the diaphragm can be pressed against it without being damaged by reactional forces. The result of the deformation capability of the basket is a reduction of the overall size of the pressure vessel.

  • Patent number: 4008659
Abstract: A frame for heavy machines, particularly presses for extremely high pressures having the press tools mounted on vertically extending columns of the machine frame so that actuating of the press involves a horizontal relative movement of the tools, includes an upper beam, or yoke, which is movable into an open position by a movement comprised of an initial raising of the yoke out of force-transmitting engagement with the tops of the vertically extending frame columns and by a subsequent horizontal movement, preferably a swinging movement, into a position where the gap between the tools is accessible.

  • Patent number: 3992912
Abstract: An isostatic press of the kind in which the workpieces and associated tools are enclosed in a pressure vessel filled with a pressure liquid and closed by a lid. The pressure liquid is pressurized after the pressure vessel has been introduced into a frame adapted to absorb substantially vertical forces. The lid is disposed in the frame and is arranged to be moved substantially vertically in relation to the pressure vessel after said vessel has been introduced into the frame.

  • Patent number: 3969921
Abstract: A press for press bending of metal plates comprises two end frames between which are arranged upper and lower beams which between them form a press gap. Each of the end frames preferably comprises two spaced apart columns interconnected at the top and bottom via yokes, the parts being pressed together to form a force-absorbing frame by means of a surrounding tension biased wire bandage. The end portions of the beams are received in the respective spaces formed between the columns of the end frames. In the working position the upper beam is forced towards the upper yokes of the end frames, and in the unloaded state the upper beam is arranged to be laterally movable through the opening in at least one end frame to permit removal and insertion of a workpiece in the press.

  • Patent number: 3969916
Abstract: An isostatic press of the kind having a pressure vessel which is relatively tall in relation to its width, the pressure vessel being adapted to be closed by a lid in order to enclose workpieces and tools together with a pressure fluid in said vessel. The pressure fluid is adapted to be pressurized after the pressure vessel has been introduced into a frame adapted to absorb forces substantially in the longitudinal direction of the vessel. The pressure vessel is disposed pivotally in relation to the frame and means are provided to produce a pivoting movement between the vessel and the frame such as to give access to the top end of the vessel.

  • Patent number: 3937057
Abstract: A manipulator system for automatically feeding blanks into a gap press and for collecting finished articles therefrom has two major parts. The first part is a revolver table and the second part is an automatic handling device, or robot. The revolver table should be located between the press and the robot. It is stepwise rotatable around a vertical axis and has a number of arms each carrying a set of tools. The robot has at least two arms swingable around a vertical axis between positions for collecting blanks, for temporary holding of semiprocessed articles, as well as for placement of blanks and semifinished articles between selected tool sets on the arms of the revolver table and for sequential working in the press and for delivery of finished articles.

  • Patent number: 3931728
Abstract: In a hydraulic press for heavy workpieces the frame of which comprises two yokes spaced by columns, the yokes are movable towards and from each other by the hydraulic working cylinders of the press. At least one of the yokes carries tools displaceable along the yoke. The arrangement makes it possible for the tools to work on every portion of a workpiece filling out the entire space between the columns, yet the cylinders are fixed relatively to the yoke carrying them which eliminates the need for flexible connections for the hydraulic medium.
