  • Patent number: 4165049
Abstract: A rotatable shaft carries a winding instrumentality whereby thread to be temporarily stored is coiled around a thread drum rotatably mounted on the shaft. Rotation of the thread drum in the direction of shaft rotation is prevented by concentric relatively fixed and movable brake elements, the fixed one secured to housing for the apparatus, the movable one coaxially secured to the thread drum. One of the brake elements has a circumferential surface from which elongated resilient fingers project, the fingers being more or less radial to said surface and having their tips normally engaged under flexing bias against a circumferential braking surface on the other brake element. The thread passes through the zone of the fingers, and the several fingers are so inclined to radials from the common center of the brake elements that the thread, or a guide tube through which it extends, can flexingly cam each finger, in turn, out of engagement with the braking surface and pass around the finger.

  • Patent number: 4155381
Abstract: A weft thread monitoring device comprises a carrier element, such as a push rod, that is moved in one direction relative to the loom frame by beating-up motion of the reed and is biased in an opposite return direction. A feeler that is carried for bodily motion by the carrier element and is movable relative to it has a sensing arm that is engaged by a weft thread during beat-up and a controlled arm cooperable with an actuator for a cut-off switch. The feeler is biased relative to the carrier element towards an actuating position in which its controlled arm can engage the actuator during return motion of the carrier element and move the actuator to stop the loom. However, if the sensing arm is held captive by a properly laid and beaten-up weft thread, the feeler is maintained, against its bias, in a position in which the controlled arm clears the actuator during carrier element return motion, and at the conclusion of such return motion the sensing arm is snapped out of engagement with the weft thread.

  • Patent number: 4147187
Abstract: A weft thread carrier is disclosed for a loom with a weft thread supply at each side thereof and wherein the carrier, just before entering the shed, engages a weft thread segment that it draws into a loop while moving in the shed. Each weft thread segment extends across the carrier path obliquely to that path, from its supply through a fixed thread eye to the selvedge. The carrier has a hook projecting towards each of its ends, each capable of catching a weft thread segment, but it also has a deflecting surface for each hook, so arranged in relation to its hook that it deflects a thread segment away from the hook if the segment is at one oblique angle to the carrier path but permits the hook to engage a segment at the opposite oblique angle. Hence, as the carrier emerges from each side of the shed it merely deflects the thread segment across its path, but in moving towards the shed its then-forward hook engages the same segment.

  • Patent number: 4059240
Abstract: A thread storage and supply device, particularly for a textile machine, having first storage means for a positive thread supply and a second storage means located ahead of the first storage means for permitting an intermittent thread supply. The second storage means includes an elongated hollow shaft having a stationary storage drum mounted thereon. The first thread storage includes a thread drum disposed adjacent and coaxial with the storage drum and rotatably supported on an extension of the hollow shaft. A winding element is associated with the storage drum for permitting winding of a thread thereon, which winding element is rotatably supported on the hollow shaft and disposed axially between the storage and thread drums. The thread withdrawn from the storage drum passes axially through the hollow shaft and is then wound onto the annular thread storage area of the thread drum.

  • Patent number: 4039155
Abstract: A thread storing and feeding device for a textile machine, which device includes a storage drum to which the thread can be tangentially fed to form a thread supply and from which it can be withdrawn particularly overend. A disc is movably supported with respect to the drum for displacing the thread supply axially along the drum. The drum has a closed circumferential wall provided with a plurality of longitudinally extending, circumferentially spaced grooves formed in the exterior surface thereof. The movable disc is positioned adjacent the upper end of the drum and has an edge section which overlaps the upper edge of the drum. This edge section has a plurality of webs thereon which project inwardly into the longitudinal grooves of the drum. The webs define a lower thread engaging surface which engages the threads so as to push the thread storage axially along the drum.
