  • Patent number: 4472181
Abstract: In a plant for purifying contaminated air, the contaminants are transferred from the air to a liquid flowing through a spray booth through which the contaminated air also flows in intimate contact with the liquid. The liquid is then collected in a container, from which it is recirculated to the spray booth. The closed liquid circulation circuit in flow communication with the spray booth is connected to a biological cleaning step in which the contaminants dissolved and/or suspended in the liquid are decomposed and then separated. The biological cleaning step comprises a bioreactor in which the main portion of the bio-degradation occurs, and a separator, for separation of the biosludge coming from the reactor. At least part of the contaminated liquid passing through the spray booth is continuously transferred to the biological cleaning stage from which substantially the same quantity of the cleaned liquid is recirculated to the spray booth circulation circuit.

  • Patent number: 4320695
Abstract: An air diffuser for spreading and feeding out an exact amount of conditioned air, comprising an inlet 3 and a stationary hood part 6 connected thereto cooperating with an adjustable hood part 7 for variation of a spreading or feeding gap for the conditioned air. A spring 14 is provided between both hood parts, which are kept at a selected spacing by means of an adjusting screw. Said screw extends through the adjustable hood part via an opening with large allowance, so that the adjustable hood part can be tilted such, that a certain enlargement of the spreading gap on the one side is corresponded proportionally by a corresponding diminution on the diagonally-opposite side. Adjusting the screw changes the total flow through the gap. Tilting the hood part changes the distribution of the air without changing the total flow.

  • Patent number: 4318643
Abstract: In a dust extraction system for woodworking machinery, the dust is collected by a hood over each machine and is carried by an air flow produced by a blower through a branch conduit to a manifold which is common to a number of branch conduits. The manifold is made sufficiently large that the air flow velocity in the manifold is too low to carry the dust along the manifold, and therefore the dust collects at the bottom of the manifold, from which it is removed at intervals by a conveyor, which carries the dust to a central hopper. A control system keeps the subatmospheric pressure in the manifold substantially constant, so that the number of machines served by the system can be changed without affecting the system performance.

  • Patent number: 4274842
Abstract: A method of highly efficiently separating preferably low contents of gaseous mercury from a gas mixture, where the gas mixture is caused to contact a solid sorbent consisting of powdered calcium hydroxide, which in an atmosphere containing hydrogen chloride is to a certain part converted to calcium chloride. The temperature of the gas mixture is between 350.degree. K. and 550.degree. K. The contact between the gas and the sorbent preferably takes place in a fluidized bed, whereafter the sorbent is separated in a dust separator. The method is suitable for use at the separation of mercury occurring in flue gases, for example from refuse incinerators or in mercury-containing gases from process industries. At experiments with flue gas from a refuse incinerator the mercury content was reduced from 200 to 5 .mu.g of gaseous mercury/cubic meter flue gas.

  • Patent number: 4214729
Abstract: The present invention relates to a connecting valve for connecting the hose of vacuum cleaning equipment into the suction duct of a built-in cleaning system. The connecting valve is positioned behind a flap cover for the suction duct opening and comprises a pair of complimentary valve elements which mate in closed position to close the duct opening, and which provide straight tubular passageway when open for accepting the tubular end of the hose of the vacuuming equipment. Each valve element is formed of a segment of a tubular pipe and is pivoted adjacent the duct opening so that it may be operated from closed position to open position by the insertion of the end of the vacuum hose into the opening. Each element is biased toward closed position so that withdrawal of the hose effects closing of the valve.

  • Patent number: 4189330
Abstract: The transfer elements of a heat and humidity exchanger are made by forming the transfer elements in the desired configuration and of a non-hygroscopic metal such as aluminum, and treating the surfaces to produce an integral hygroscopic layer thereof. This is done by oxidizing the surface of the metal to form an oxide layer, which itself is hygroscopic, and preferably enhancing the hygroscopic properties by subsequent impregnation of the oxide with a hygroscopic material such as lithium chloride. According to one form of the method, the oxidizing layer is produced by immersing the transfer elements, in a bath such as a warm aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide, or sodium carbonate, followed by heating in humid air; in a second form of the method, the oxide layer is produced by heating in humid air, or in a water, without preliminary alkaline treatment; in a third form of the method, the oxide layer is formed in a water bath containing an oxidizing agent such as trietanolamin or hydrogen peroxide.
