  • Patent number: 4232048
Abstract: A package for a pressurized liquid includes an inner container for the liquid having a generally cushion-like shape made from a tubular material which is sealed transversely at its opposite ends. The tubular material is a laminate of thin plastic and metallic foil impervious to the liquid. The inner container is enclosed within an outer reinforcing casing, open at both ends, which extends for the full length of the inner container. The casing is made from a relatively stiff material and consists of paper board the outside of which is coated with a liquid-tight layer.

  • Patent number: 4203795
Abstract: A machine for transforming heat shrinkable thermoplastic material into sealed and liquid-filled containers in which the material in strip form is cut off to a suitable length then heated and transformed into a tube-shaped shell blank on a mandrel with an overlapped longitudinal heat-sealed seam. The shell is then displaced in relation to the mandrel so that its bottom end extends beyond the end of the mandrel, a base blank cut from another strip is then inserted into the end of the shell to rest against the mandrel end, and the shell and inserted base are then heated causing the shell to shrink accurately to the shape of the mandrel and the bottom edge zone of the heated shell to be folded in against the end of the mandrel and the edge of the base. The joined edge zones of the shell and base are then pressed together and heat sealed. The container is then passed to a filling machine where it is filled and closed by a lid.

  • Patent number: 4201609
Abstract: A method of joining two sheets of a laminated thermoplastic material in a joint wherein the edge portion of a first sheet is butted against a face of a second sheet in which an edge portion of the first sheet, which consists of a central layer of porous plastic material such as a foamed polystyrene and compact facing layers of a thermoplastic material such as polystyrene or polythene, is heated by hot air which first causes the edge portion of the central layer to soften and retract followed by softening of the edge portions of the facing layers which then turn inwardly and join together thus closing off the central layer. The edge portion is then butted against and joined to a heated-up compact thermoplastic layer of the second sheet.

  • Patent number: 4113101
Abstract: A packing container of substantially cylindrical form is made from a convoluted blank with the end portions thereof sealed together. One end of the upper edge of the blank has a tab member extending circumferentially of the cylindrical container and the other end of the upper edge of the blank has a corresponding cut-out portion. The ends are overlapped, with the tab portion on the outside, to such an extent that the width of the seal is greater than the circumferential length of the cut-out portion so that the seal includes a finger-like extension up to the top of the container. A tear thread is attached around the inside of the container and extends along the outer tab portion so that when pulled it will tear through the finger-like seal thus facilitating opening of the container.

  • Patent number: 4109814
Abstract: A container closure with a screw cap that after the opening of the container remains attached to the same, by means of a hinge. A sealing ring is joined to the lower end of the cap and rotatably connected to the container, but impossible to remove, as the inner diameter of the ring is smaller than the outer diameter of a bulge on the container. Between the cap and the sealing ring is a breakable connection and an unbreakable part serving as the hinge. When the cap is unscrewed the sealing ring is after a while obstructed by the bulge, which causes the breakable connection to break, whereafter the unscrewed cap can be swung aside around the hinge so that the contents of the container can be freely poured out.

  • Patent number: 4099914
Abstract: Method and apparatus to internally sterilize a tube of packing material in which a sterile product is being introduced. The sterilizing agent is introduced into the tube in liquid form wherein it is vaporized. • Patent number: 4088260
Abstract: Parallelepipedic packing containers are made and filled in succession by passing a continuous web of packaging material over a forming device which converts the web into tubular form with an overlapped longitudinal seam. The tube is then filled with the intended contents, e.g., a liquid and is then divided off into individual packing containers by first pressing the tube transversely at longitudinally spaced intervals along broad zones and the opposite sides of the flattened tube are heat-sealed to each other along two narrow sealing regions close to the opposite base lines of the flattened zone while the remaining portions of the flattened zone remain non-sealed.

  • Patent number: 4081944
Abstract: An apparatus for reading photocell markings applied at equal intervals on the decorated side of a material web run through a packing machine for the continuous manufacture of separatable packages provided with transverse crease lines in which a cylindrical monitoring element which contacts and is rotated by the crease lines functions to periodically actuate an electrical switch which in turn activates a photocell located close to the web when a photocell marking is calculated to pass.

  • Patent number: 4080235
Abstract: A laminated web comprising an internal base layer of paper faced with external thermoplastic layers is cut longitudinally into a plurality of separate webs each of which is then used in a packaging machine and formed into a tubular configuration with an overlapped edge seam. In order to prevent a "wicking" action at the internal base paper layer located on the inside of the package tube which could take place when the package is filled with a liquid, a mode of cutting the web into the separate strips is utilized wherein one of the plastic outer layers along one edge of each strip projects laterally beyond the edge of the internal paper layer and the edge of the opposite outer plastic layer. When each web is thereafter formed into a tube in the packaging machine by the overlapped seam technique, the laterally projecting edge portion of the plastic layer is then adhered to the adjacent plastic layer thus effectively sealing off the edge of the internal paper layer from the liquid contents of the package.

  • Patent number: 4062712
Abstract: A packing laminate for use in the manufacture of disposable packages consists of a relatively thin central layer made from high-density polyethylene, two intermediate foam layers of polystyrene applied respectively to opposite faces of the central layer by means of a thermoplastic glue and two outer layers of a compact high-impact polystyrene applied respectively to the intermediate layers. The laminate is manufactured by joint extrusion of a flexible tube consisting of an inner layer of the foamed polystyrene and an outer layer of the compact high-impact polystyrene, this tube being thereafter split longitudinally into two halves to form two webs which are then joined respectively to opposite sides of the central layer of high density polyethylene following its extrusion.
