  • Patent number: 6237964
Abstract: A socket pipe joint includes a male part and a female part in telescopic overlapping position in the joint. An interlocking sleeve member is provided between the male and female parts. Locking elements including the interlocking sleeve member are provided to releasably lock the male part and female part to one another. A locking sleeve is positioned on the male part and extends from a position inside the female part to a position outside an end opening of the female part. A drive assembly is coupled to the locking sleeve on the outside of the joint and is operable to displace the locking sleeve axially between inner and outer positions. A positioning and interlocking element includes a pawl. By axial displacement of the locking sleeve, the pawl is displaced radially, positioning and interlocking the two pipe parts with simultaneous permanent compression of a seal between the pipe parts.

  • Patent number: 6206742
Abstract: A method and a buoyancy device adapted to impart buoyancy to at least one longitudinal element submerged in water. The buoyancy device is hollow and is preferably made of plastic or a similarly corrosion-resistant material. The device is preferably produced as one single unit, but may include several separate chambers which, via valves, may be brought into communicating connection with the surroundings, in a controlled manner. The device will therefore not be subjected to large differential pressures in use, and accordingly may have relatively thin walls. The buoyancy device has a much lower weight than prior-art buoys, is simpler to assemble, and is not subject to corrosion.

  • Patent number: 6068427
Abstract: A system and methods for diverless replacement of a functional component installed on a service unit on a sea bottom-based installation is provided. The component is fitted releasably into the service unit as an insert with an externally extending maneuverable part. The replacement is carried out by a tool mounted on a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The invention utilizes ROV supported weight compensation means for compensating the weight of the component in order to maintain the ROV in a substantially neutral buoyancy state during operations. The weight compensating means comprises a separate adapter element having the same weight as the component to be replaced. The adapter element or adapter are equipped to be releasably supported by the ROV tool. The adapter has an upper end and a lower end and a central axis extending therethrough, and a centrally extending throughgoing opening having transverse dimensions larger than the largest transverse dimension of the component.

  • Patent number: 6024514
Abstract: The invention relates to a system for intercoupling of two pipeline which are located in a subsea position. A second pipeline (12) is preinstalled on a bottom based template or frame (10), and a first pipeline (2) is initially freely positioned, located in a smaller or larger distance from said second pipeline. Equipment is available for transport of said first pipeline to the bottom frame with said second pipeline, and equipment for positioning, holding and coupling of the pipelines, such that a pressure resistant, strong coupling is provided between the same. One aspect of the invention relates to a ring-shaped, open seat (18) mounted on the bottom frame (10) at a certain space in front of a terminator (14) on the end of the second pipeline (12) mounted on the bottom frame (10).

  • Patent number: 5834721
Abstract: A coupling and switch system for subsea electrical power distribution employs fluid-filled contact housings. The coupling and switch system includes two mutually spaced contact housings mounted along a common centerline. A space between the contact housing has therein a coupling housing or middle piece having contact elements. The middle piece when or after mounting between the contact housings is anchored in a fluid-tight manner thereto by axial movement of one or both contact housings. The contact elements of the middle piece can be moved into respective contact housings with the middle piece in the mounted position.

  • Patent number: 5807027
Abstract: The invention relates to a system for pull-in and interconnection of two pipelines in subsea position, whereof one first pipeline initially is freely suspended, while one second pipeline for instance is mounted on a bottom based manifold frame. The end section on the first pipeline is provided with a socket-like termination with a front end, which is provided with means (17) for coupling of the terminator (8) to complementary pipe coupling means (29) on the second pipeline (19). The terminator (8) is provided with a laterally directed, longitudinally shaped anchor element (10), and the manifold frame (22) is provided with receiving means (24) for receipt and fixation of the anchor element (10).
