Abstract: A method and an apparatus are provided for maximizing energy efficiency of an electric drive system including an electric motor and a load. In the method, the torque characteristics of the system can be selected from two types of behavior: linear and quadratic behavior of a torque of the motor in respect to a rotational speed of the motor. The method gathers a plurality of data points and with which behavior the data points correlate best. The torque characteristics to be used are determined on the basis of the correlation, and the motor is controlled on the basis of the determined torque characteristics. The apparatus implements the method.

  • Patent number: 8723459
Abstract: A method and an arrangement are provided for controlling a sensorless permanent magnet synchronous machine using a frequency converter connected to feed the machine with electrical power. A current vector having a magnitude is produced to the stator of the machine with the frequency converter, and the current vector is rotated for rotating the rotor of the machine. Prior to starting the drive, a value is defined for the magnitude of the current vector and a frequency limit. The defined value is used as the magnitude of the current vector when the rotor of the machine is rotated with a frequency that is lower than the defined frequency limit. A vector control method is used for controlling the machine when the frequency of the machine is higher than or equal to the defined frequency limit.

  • Patent number: 8683327
Abstract: A frequency converter includes a symbol string editor in which the potential input symbols are grouped into at least two symbol lists. One of the lists is treated as a current symbol list, which can be scrolled and from which the symbols can be selected as the user input. In addition, a user is allowed to control change of the current symbol list such that the symbols in all of the symbol lists are available for selection. This arrangement allows for scrollable lists to be significantly shorter than a single list of potential symbols would be, which makes entering symbol strings faster.

  • Publication number: 20140079092
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for an arrangement including a power semiconductor module with a cooling interface which is connected to a cooling element. The method first measures a first temperature value of the cooling interface, and then changes an operating mode of the power semiconductor module, wherein the operating mode is selected from an active mode and an inactive mode. The method then waits a determined time, measures a second temperature value of the cooling interface, and determines a temperature difference between the first temperature value and the second temperature value. The method then determines a level of a fault risk on the basis of the temperature difference. The apparatus implements the method.
