  • Publication number: 20110318164
Abstract: The means of sealing the compressor wheel with respect to the bearing housing includes an annular sealing element which forms a sealing boundary face with a shaft edge and to which a spring force is applied in the direction of the shaft edge. The external spring force neither compensates or amplifies the pressure forces acting on the sealing element, irrespective of the direction of the difference in pressure. As a result, the sealing of the oil space in the bearing housing of the exhaust gas turbocharger with respect to the shaft is not influenced, or is influenced only to a small degree, by the pressure fluctuations in the wheel back space of the compressor.

  • Publication number: 20110250067
Abstract: A shaft seal of the rotating wheel shaft of a turbomachine includes a rotating wheel-side seal and a bearing-side seal between the bearing housing and the shaft. An oil outlet chamber is arranged between the rotating wheel-side seal and the bearing-side seal. The oil outlet chamber is delimited by a third seal between the bearing housing and the shaft, and a gas discharge chamber is arranged between the third seal and the rotating wheel-side seal. The construction is actively cooled by means of at least one splash oil bore in the region of the oil drain channel, as a result of which coking of the shaft seal can be prevented. The third seal separates the oil issuing from the oil outlet chamber from the gas issuing from the gas discharge chamber.

  • Patent number: 8021106
Abstract: A guide device with adjustable guide vanes is provided with a drive for the adjustable guide vanes, in which a cylindrical driving pin and an adjusting lever are provided each with one surface pair which are matched to one another and which slide on one another in operation when the guide vanes are being adjusted. To adjust the guide vanes, the adjusting ring is moved, by which the driving pin attached to the adjusting ring slides in an elongated groove of the adjusting lever and applies a force to the adjusting lever. This approach yields an economical and durable structure which is easy to install. This results in surface support with the corresponding low compressive loads per unit area and consequently greatly reduced wear.

  • Publication number: 20110223010
Abstract: A device for sealing a bearing housing, which holds lubricating oil, from which a rotor supported inside the housing of an exhaust gas turbocharger is guided into a compressor housing, loadable by a mass flow of a charger. The device includes a fixed partition with a wall extension, a sealing disk fastened on a shaft of the rotor, a separating gap arranged between the sealing disk and the wall extension, and a drip device connected to an oil-collecting channel and directs lubricating oil collected in the oil-collecting channel into an oil drain by gravity. The drip device includes a drain-off surface for lubricating oil, which has a large axial distance from a rotating sealing disk which delimits the separating gap. Lubricating oil which can penetrate into the separating gap is guided into an oil drain of the bearing housing without interacting with the sealing disk.

  • Publication number: 20110162359
Abstract: The device serves for sealing a bearing housing of an exhaust-gas turbocharger, from which a rotor is led into a chamber of the turbocharger subjected to a mass flow. The device includes a sealing ring arranged in a groove of the rotor, a seat, arranged on the bearing housing and on which a pre-stressed sealing ring is secured by an outward-facing circumferential surface, and a radially extending separation gap, which leads annularly around the axis of rotation of the rotor and is defined by two superimposed sliding surfaces, the first of which is arranged on a first face of the sealing ring and the second of which is arranged on a first flank of the groove. In order to reduce a heat input into the sealing ring caused by lapping of the sealing ring during operation of the exhaust-gas turbocharger, a depression annularly around the axis is formed into the second flank of the groove. The depression is defined radially outwards by an annular body formed into the rotor.

  • Patent number: 7850421
Abstract: A stator arrangement, or distributor, for a turbine machine is disclosed which includes a guide blade. The blade shaft is supported to be able to pivot around the pivot axis, with a part which is to be guided being situated to the outside. The pivoting device contains a setting ring which is located outside a flow channel and which can be pivoted around the turbine axis, and adjusting levers which transmit torque from the setting ring to the blade shaft of each guide blade. The adjusting lever is slipped with one end onto the blade shaft. The other end can be configured as a ball head, the adjusting levers being guided in a groove of the setting ring. The surface which acts on the ball head of the adjusting lever for transmission of torque from the setting ring to the blade shaft of each guide blade can be configured as a ball socket. Exemplary embodiments can yield a uniform large-area pressure distribution by which the wear of the parts which press on one another can be distinctly reduced.

  • Patent number: 7845900
Abstract: A discharge region of a centrifugal compressor is provided. A scroll casing is asymmetrically formed in a circumferential direction and configured to be positioned in different angular positions in the circumferential direction. A vaned diffuser is configured to be positioned in different angular positions in the circumferential direction. The vaned diffuser includes a plurality of guide elements configured to be arranged in a distributed manner in the circumferential direction. Means are provided for positioning the vaned diffuser with regard to an angular position of the asymmetrically formed scroll casing. An angular spacing of two guide elements which are arranged adjacently to each other differs from an angular spacing of two other guide elements which are arranged adjacently to each other. By varying the angular spacings between two adjacent guide vanes of a diffuser along the circumference, the resonance vibration of the compressor can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 7828906
Abstract: Depending on the actual operating situation and the composition of the fuels used for driving the internal combustion engine, contamination of the moving blades, of the guide device and of the turbine casing parts occurs sooner or later in the exhaust gas turbine. According to the invention, a small quantity of cleaning fluid is fed continuously or cyclically into the exhaust gas flow of an exhaust gas turbine and is directed onto the components to be cleaned. The small quantity of cleaning fluid can be fed in with unchanged operation of the internal combustion engine, such that the exhaust gas turbine can be cleaned or kept clean within the entire operating range of the internal combustion engine. Fluctuations in the power output of the internal combustion engine on account of requisite cleaning of the exhaust gas turbine therefore do not occur. Furthermore, the formation of thermostress cracks in the critical turbine casing parts is largely avoided.

  • Publication number: 20100202875
Abstract: The piston ring sealing points of a sealing apparatus between the rotor and the housing of a continuous-flow machine each have a piston ring, a cylindrical contact surface, which is directed radially inward, on the housing, as well as an axial stop on the rotor. In this case, the piston ring of the outer piston ring sealing point has a larger external radius and a smaller internal radius than the piston ring of the inner piston ring sealing point. At the same time, the outer piston ring sealing point has a smaller internal radius than the inner piston ring sealing point. Because of the V-shaped arrangement concept, there is no need for a steel ring, shrunk onto the rotor, between the piston ring sealing points.

  • Patent number: 7771161
Abstract: Guide vanes are supported in a two-part or multipart housing (32, 33). Housing separation takes place radially in the region of the bearing point (25) of the vane shaft so that the separating joint (36) between the housing parts (32, 33) leads through the bearing openings (34) which are designed to hold the vane shafts. The completely round opening (34) leads to the bearing point of the vane shaft having large-area support in any position. Thus high surface pressures can be avoided.

  • Publication number: 20100192570
Abstract: A compressor casing includes a casing insert with a flexible element in the force flux between the insert wall contour and the outer compressor casing. The flexible element is assembled from a support ring and ribs, wherein the ribs axially in front of the support ring and the ribs axially behind the support ring are arranged in an offset manner in relation to each other. Due to the arrangement of the ribs in an offset manner, the axial force flux between the insert wall contour and the outer compressor casing is deflected twice, and an axially compliant flexible construction is achieved.

  • Publication number: 20100143111
Abstract: An annular circulation chamber is arranged in an interior of a compressor housing, which circulation chamber radially surrounds a main flow duct and extends from an intake region to an encircling circulation opening in a region of rotor blades of the compressor wheel. Between the circulation openings, the circulation chamber is delimited from the main flow duct by an annular contoured wall. The contoured wall is connected to the inner compressor housing by plural struts which are spaced apart from one another to different extents in the circumferential direction. As a result of the irregular distribution of the struts in the circumferential direction, generation of undesired vibration excitations can be reduced and/or eliminated.

  • Patent number: 7648331
Abstract: The nozzles are in the form of blowing-in openings in the housing wall which bounds the flow channel. The blowing-in openings are fed directly by means of air which is extracted from the flow channel downstream from the diffusor. This air is at a higher pressure than the flow in the flow channel upstream of the diffusor. This results in a passive, dynamic stabilization system for a compressor stage in the high pressure-ratio range, which does not require any additional control or actuating elements.
