Abstract: A mobile paving machine which may, with minor modification, be employed either to distribute material along the path of movement of the machine or in a region which is laterally offset to one side of the motion path. In order to spread material in a laterally offset region, which may correspond to a break-down lane being formed along the side of a travel lane, a tiltable secondary skip is installed above the primary skip to which paving material is normally supplied. A scraper is mounted from an extension of the distribution beam of the machine to controllably disperse material discharged through an end of the secondary skip when the loaded secondary skip is angularly inclined to cause gravity induced flow of material into the lateral region.

Abstract: A grooving depth indicator for a highway grooving or milling machine comprises a display device which is coupled by means of a cable to a mechanism which is employed to adjust the cutting depth of the machine. The display device includes an indicator scale which rotates relative to a zero marker, the scale being caused to rotate by a shaft on which a pulley is mounted. The coupling cable, which is maintained under tension by a spring bias, engages the pulley.

Abstract: A road-finishing machine provided with a level-compensation arrangement. A directional wheel installed on each side of a frame includes an axle to which a vertical pin is attached. The pin is slidably and rotatably accomodated with a cylinder housing having a hydraulic fluid-filled chamber therein into which the top of the pin, shaped like a piston head, is placed. Veertical motion of the wheel and corresponding motion of the pin cause hydraulic fluid to be expelled from or drawn into the chamber. The chambers of the wheels on opposite sides of the frame are in communication with each other. Consequently, as one wheel rises, the other is forced downward by the compensating hydraulic fluid, and vice-versa, to attain a level compensation effect.
