Abstract: A button unit is suspended vertically and has a button body with an actuating surface and a shaft extending downwardly therefrom. An X-Y sensor unit is arranged below the button body for detecting X-Y positions on the actuating surface. The X-Y sensor unit has one opening such that the shaft can move therethrough. One transfer element is elastically suspended below the shaft and moved downwardly upon downward movement of the shaft. A Z sensor unit is arranged below the transfer element. The Z sensor unit has a detection element for detecting downward movement of the transfer element. The X-Y sensor unit may include a capacitive sensor. The Z sensor unit may include an inductive sensor, a capacitive sensor, or a magnetic sensor. The shaft and the extension may include a translucent material to form a light guide for illuminating the button body via a light source.

Abstract: A multifunctional control element is disclosed, comprising a rotary knob which is rotatably mounted on a radial bearing with a radial bearing mount, and which is connected to a rotary sensor for creating signals related to rotary direction and rotary speed of the rotary knob; a rotary knob mount which receives the rotary knob, as well as the radial bearing and the radial bearing mount, and which is pivotable around a shaft mounted to a mounting plate, wherein a switch is provided on the mounting plate for creating signals related to downward displacement of the rotary knob mount with the radial bearing; and at least one linear bearing provided on the shaft for permitting sliding displacement of the rotary knob mount with the radial bearing along the shaft, wherein switches are provided on the mounting plate for creating signals related to the sliding displacement of the rotary knob mount.

The shaft and the extension having a translucent material such that they commonly form a light guide which is fixedly connected to the button body. The button additionally includes a light source vertically below the shaft. Light from the light source leaves vertically upwardly and enters the shaft from below. The button further includes a first optical device arranged in the vertical upper area of the light guide above the shaft for deflecting light that has entered the shaft from the light source in a horizontal direction into a plane of the extension.

The movable actuating element is made of elastic material with a massive middle shaft spaced from the inner walls of the chamber by an air gap. It has an upper actuating surface and crimp surrounding the actuating surface above the air gap. It also has a profile area at the outer circumference of the movement crimp, where the horizontally outwardly extending portion of the profile area rests on top of the outer wall, the downwardly extending portion of the profile area rests on the outside of the outer profile edge and the protrusion rests on the pedestal covering it at least partially. A seamless multi-button is also disclosed, with a method for manufacturing seamless buttons.
