Abstract: In one embodiment, there is disclosed an apparatus for decontaminating exhaust gasses. The apparatus includes a monolith catalytic substrate having a length and a width. The substrates length separates first and second opposed ends. The first end and second ends each have a one piece retention ring fitted thereon. The apparatus includes a housing having a length separating opposed, spaced apart open first and second ends. The housing has a side wall extending substantially unbroken there between to define a body having an interior space. The monolith catalytic substrate is disposed in said interior space. The housing has a greater length than said monolith catalytic substrate. The substrate is centered in the housing and the housing is swaged at the first and second ends respectively to engage the retention rings and retain the monolith catalytic substrate within the interior space in said housing.
Abstract: An exhaust gas mixer to impart swirl and turbulence in the exhaust stream of an internal combustion engine as well as an exhaust system including such an exhaust gas mixer is disclosed.

Abstract: A fan fold resistance bonded metal catalyst substrate is disclosed as well as a method for forming the same. In one method, a length of a continuous sheet of foil is moved bidirectionally through a corrugators. The corrugator engages with the foil sheet to form a corrugated shape in the foil; each of the corrugated shapes have a profile to form substantially āVā shaped corrugations along the length of said foil. The continuous sheel of corrugated foil is fan folded at predetermined places along the length of the corrugagted foil into a fan folded corrugated continous foil shape. The shape has at least two layers of opposed corrugated foil in facing relation to each other. The V shaped corrugations in each layer are positioned relative to each other to form a substantially consistent diamond pattern between opposed separate layers in a substrate face of the fan folded corrugated continuous foil sheet shape.
Abstract: An end ring assembly is used to create catalytic converter assemblies. The end segments have a length and a sidewall extending substantially the length of each segment, and a front face wall intersecting said sidewall and extending at least a portion of said length. At least one segment has retention barb projections positioned along its length to pierce the catalytic converter substrate and retain the ring segment in place. The ring segment is assembled using welding techniques to create a catalytic converter assembly.
