  • Patent number: 5089245
Abstract: The present invention involves conversion of methanol, a relatively abundant and inexpensive, yet low energy fuel, to carbon monoxide and hydrogen, which have higher heats of combustion. The catalytic dehydrogenation of methanol is an endothermic process.heat+CH.sub.3 OH.revreaction.CO+2H.sub.2 (1)A new and efficient catalyst technology which promotes high methanol conversion and excellent selectivity for CO and H.sub.2 in this reaction would have several practical applications. Results clearly demonstrate that it is feasible to employ SMSC technology in the development of catalyst systems with commercial applications for methanol dehydrogenation.
